Great location. Very nice apartment with a lovely living room and view of the Dordogne. Would have given it a 5 rating except for the single beds which could use better bedding (just a sheet and blanket).

Amazing views of the Dordogne
The property has lots of character with everything you need for great stay. The location is perfect and felt peaceful with the river flowing past your window. The village could get busy during the day, but had a nice buzz about it and in the evening it was quiet and peaceful once all the day trippers had left. We loved sitting out on the balcony and watching the world go by. It’s a very convenient location for visiting the sights of the Dordogne region

Superb location
We stayed for a week with Joel, he met us at check in and walked us around the property. The location is perfect for sightseeing and the property suited us perfectly. The free parking card was very well received. We would thoroughly recommend staying here as a base for your stay in the Dordogne.

Characterful property in a lovely location
Very comfortable stay in a charming property. Joel was very helpful, giving us a comprehensive tour on our arrival. The village is busy but in a beautiful location. The free car park pass makes parking easy. We enjoyed our week in Roque-Gageac very much.

On the river
Excellent location on the Dordogne river. Apartment is large, well furnished and has everything required for a great stay. The owner Sandra met us and was extremely helpful. La Roque Gageac is a lovely place to visit with shops, great restaurants and not forgetting the boat rides.

Wonderful stay in Roque Gageac
We had a wonderful week in La Roque Gageac. Joel was a perfect host. He met us at the gite, helped us with our luggage, and gave us lots of detailed information about the property, which was amazing. It was great to have the car park pass, the property was very clean and comfortable, the rooms were huge and we were provided everything we needed for a relaxing stay.

A lovely gite. Just as described even better. A lovely position overlooking the river. Joel who met us gave us information on the property and the area. Definitely would not hesitate to go back. There is plenty to see in the area and some lovely places to eat without having to drive anywhere else.

Spacious and comfortable!
Arrival was straightforward - parking in the village car park. Apartment was clean, well maintained and with plenty of equipment. Joel welcomed us and showed us round. We had a good stay with perhaps the only criticism being that in very hot weather the apartment gets extremely hot - there were boxes for fans but they were empty. We'd definitely stay here again - the position in the centre of the village was excellent but quiet and there were plenty of restaurants nearby.

Wonderful stay in La Roque Gageac
We loved our stay at La Roque Gageac, beautiful place especially in the evenings or mornings for walks in and around the small town. Beautiful views of balloons over the Dordogne at 7 am. Wonderful spacious accommodation. Best to stop at the supermarket before arrival for cooking essentials, as there are restaurants and a sandwich - pastry shop, but no dairy or basic supplies such as salt, pepper, in town. We purchased prepared duck thighs and pate from the family store below the apartment and these were fantastic. A wonderful property and Joel is a very kind host. We hope to return!

Delightful house
Characterful and perfectly located in the small but idyllic village, the living accommodation is spacious and well equipped. The village just needs a boulangerie to be perfect, but the next village is only a couple of miles away and supermarkets not much further. Plenty of restaurants in the village to choose from if you don’t want to drive but surrounding villages have so much to offer, and to experience, that it would be a crime not to explore. Altogether, the house provided a perfect base from which to experience this part of the Dordogne, which is thankfully much less Anglicised than that around Bergerac and Eymet. Our stay was fabulous despite some very wet weather.

A lovely spot in the Dordogne
La Roque-Gageac is a great base from which to explore the area, with many sites and beautiful villages within an easy drive. The House of Gabarrier, was perfectly situated in the heart of village with lovely views of the river. We were surrounded by shops and restaurants, but still had privacy and at night it was quiet & peaceful. The house provided all that was listed, but any condiments for cooking, and laundry products, you need to bring with you. The little private courtyard has not been maintained, so it was different to the photo we had seen.
All in all, we were comfortable and really enjoyed our stay at this property, in this beautiful village.

Best location
Stayed 3 weeks and the location is amazing. Close proximity to all “The most beautiful towns in France”.
Manager met us on arrival, showed us the unit and was easy to reach at all times. The house is just steps away to many restaurants, pizza parlor with excellent pizza right next door, bakeries, restaurants with water views and right across the Dordogne river, where you can see boats, canoes and balloons just go by. Parking, which is free, short distance from the house. Won’t hesitate to come back. By the way, unit has 1 and one half bathrooms, even though listed as one, as France doesn’t recognize a half bath as one

Fabulous place, highest recommendation!
We stayed in this lovely apartment for a month and were so sad to leave! It was perfectly positioned, roomy and comfortable. All rooms were large. It would easily accomodate 4 prople. Clean and bright with a lovely courtyard. Well fitted out. Multiple channels available on the TV. Joel was a wonderful host. Parking was great. It's close to everything you need with a boulangerie a couple of doors down, multiple ice cream shops, and a 3 star Michelin restaurant. The village and local area were divine, with lots to do, see and experience. We want to come back and bring friends!

La Dordogne!
This house is everything you want in a place in Dordogne. The old walls of stone, the wood beams, yet modern bathrooms, shower, and kitchen area. I can't say enough about looking out the front balcony at the calmly flowing river. It's a unique and marvelous location under the cliffs of La Roque-Gageac. And you are near to every castle and medieval village you might want to see, as well as canoeing in the river, or biking along the flat roads. Be aware that after Sept the shops and restaurants are open at specific limited hours. Yet they are all quaint and wonderful. We had an unforgettable time there. Oh, and hot air balloons going by in the mornings and evenings!

December 2023
Utterly fabulous place to stay. Warm and cosy.... However in Dec the whole of La Roque Gageac is closed. Absolutely NOTHING to do, in the area on Sundays. France completely closes on Sundays. Prepare yourself foodwise on Saturday! I wish i had known that. But it meant we had nearby castles, when they did open, to ourselves! My only regret was that we couldn,t try Joel,s Foigras!

Character house with stunning views, perfect location and free parking.
Such a unique and characterful property, we really felt that we were 'at home' from the minute we arrived. Despite the exceptional heat at the time the house was always cool, and the AC was particularly welcome at night. Communication with Joel was brilliant, and the car park pass made life very easy.La Roque Gageac is a beautiful place, we have visited before but not stayed there, this time we were able to live like a local, explore the village, canoe on the river, and visit the local chateaux, villages, gardens and markets. 20 minutes walk along the river there is a lovely beach, with shady trees and crystal clear water, perfect for swimming and watching the canoes and gabarres pass by. There are some lovely restaurants in the Bourg; we were spoiled for choice. The Friday market is charming. We had croissants every morning from the boulangerie 3 doors away and ate them on the balcony watching the morning flight of hot air balloons. In the evenings we sat on the balcony watching the evening flights of hot air balloons! We also went to watch the boules matches played on Wednesday evening.Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There are many day visitors to La Roque which gives it a great buzz but there is a special time once the visitors have left that it becomes very peaceful and relaxing. We feel very privileged to have spent two weeks here. Thank you Joel.

La Roque Gageac
A very clean and spacious apartment. The weather was very hot but there was no fan available. The courtyard was nothing like the picture on the website but this was probably because it was mid September and flowers etc were past their best. Even so, the courtyard could heve been weeded and tidier. The front balcony has great views and catches the sun but is a bit of a goldfish bowl for passing tourists taking photos of the cliff above. Street noise is a little intrusive at certain times of the day. La Roque is wonderfully placed for surrounding sightseeing and restaurants. Having to pay 50 Euros at the end of our stay for cleaning seemed a bit of a liberty but apparently it is common practice. Why not not just factor it into the cost of rental? Overall, a very restful holiday and we would certainly visit this area again.

Great location
This property is in a great location on the main street in La Roque-Gageac. We spent two months here (November and December).
La Roque-Gageac is beautiful and very photogenic. The town is very quiet in the off-season - all of the restaurants and shops are closed and there are few tourists. An excellent bakery is just a short drive away in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle.
The property is relatively comfortable, though the living spaces are not well lit (only the master bedroom has sufficient lights (more than enough, in fact)). It wouldn’t be an issue for summer visitors, but the thermostat could only be adjusted by texting the owner and the radiators didn’t work well upstairs in the bedrooms.
The kitchen has a good supply of tableware, glasses, and pots and pans but is short on utensils for cooking (very dull knives, no cheese grater, one large spoon, etc). If you are here for a short time and plan to mostly eat out, this probably won’t be an issue.
The wi-fi was unreliable during our stay, which the owner said was due to bad weather. It repeatedly needed to have the router rebooted, which required texting the owner and having him come reboot it, since the router was in the (closed) store downstairs. Wifi is also not available in all the rooms -it’s good in the living room and second bedroom, spotty in the kitchen, and non-existent in the master bedroom.
There is great hiking in the area. Sarlat, 15 minutes away, has supermarkets, restaurants, and a good imarché twice a week. The owner was helpful with restaurant suggestions; we particularly liked L’Esprit in Sarlat.
