Beach Sand Nourishment Project Blocked Oceanfront Access

Our OBX vacation at this VRBO location was a massive disappointment. We paid for an oceanfront home with a view and private beach access. Due to a known sand nourishment project taking place by the property management and VRBO, and with no notification to myself as a renter, neither our beach access nor view was afforded. The construction crew worked 24/7 our entire 7 day stay with very loud heavy machinery, bright spotlights every hour of the night, and a foul smelling setup of portapottys on our beach front residence. It is incredibly disappointing VRBO did not inform us of this project, and still charged us full price after misrepresentation of the home. It is further frustrating that I have made multiple attempts to speak with a representative, and have received no response on the matter whatsoever, or any form of compensation in the form of a refund. Our vacation home was not what we paid for, and vrbo has made zero effort to right this wrongdoing of improper informative information that should have been provided to myself and our party of paying customers. Vrbo should make a greater effort to inform renters of the inconvenience of this kind of situation we were forced to work around. (Side note- The home has black mold present in hvac vents)

Rachel - Please know that everyone here at Surf or Sound Realty fully empathizes with your experience and the temporary inconveniences you've described relating to beach nourishment during the time those activities passed by adjacent to your oceanfront beach home. As we have shared previously (in emails and via surforsound.com/beachnourishment), this vital work protecting our villages moves fairly quickly down the shoreline. The exact location of the work on any given day is extremely fluid and unpredictable - and completely out of our control, occurring on National Park Service property (the beach). Fortunately, this marvel of engineering that maintains healthy beaches for everyone only affected small areas at a time - and only for a few days - as the project moved continually down the beach. For others reading this reply, this beach nourishment is now complete. Please also know that this home did not have any mold, black or otherwise. It is fairly common here for fine dust in the air to collect on air ducts with cold air-conditioned metal vents meet up with warm, humid air when doors or windows are left open with the HVAC system is running. The dust turns very dark when wet – and can look alarming – but it wipes away easily, as when we cleaned all of the vents in this home after Rachel checked out. - Your Friends at Surf or Sound Realty

Loved the house

The house is amazing, very roomy and in great location close to beach, grocery store, and restaurants. The photos don’t do the house justice, it is much nicer and with lots of extra features like outdoor bathroom and shower. Having said that, this was my first and last time to use VRBO. Perhaps the worst customer support that rivals even that of Comcast. They essentially charge the customer a listing fee for making the home more accessible to a broader audience. After that though, they literally do nothing more to manage your reservation, You have to call the realty company and do that yourself. Save the money and book through surf/sound realty directly.

Great space for all right on the beach!

Large living spaces made it great for all of us to spread out. Large guest rooms with plenty of bathrooms. Tiki bar was great fun!
