À propos de cet hébergement
Piton | Secluded Bighorn Mountain Cabin near Buffalo & Ten Sleep WY | Sleeps 11 | ATV & Snowmobile, Hunting & Fishing Basecamp | Pet-Friendly Off-Grid Getaway by Wyo Stays"
Summary:
There is a moment on the drive up when the cell signal drops, the pines close in, and your shoulders finally come down from your ears. That is where The Piton begins.
Set at roughly 8,500 feet in the southern Bighorn Mountains, this newly finished Wyoming cabin sits on five private acres ringed by national forest, almost exactly between Buffalo and Ten Sleep. The wrap-around deck looks straight out at some of the best peaks in the range. Mornings start with coffee and mule deer in the meadow; evenings end with a glass of something good, a fire crackling in the wood stove, and a sky so full of stars it feels invented.
Inside, you get the comfort of a modern home with the soul of a mountain cabin: a full kitchen for big family meals, a queen bedroom, a bunk room the kids will fight over, and a roomy loft with three queen beds, a couch, and a TV. Wash off the trail dust in the full bath, run the washer and dryer between adventures, and gather everyone around one of three fire pits when the sun drops behind the ridgeline.
“One of the most peaceful and pleasant places we have ever stayed.” — Joshua, past guest
“Beautiful cabin tucked away in the Big Horns with an awesome view. Has anything you could need for sleeping and cooking.” — Cory, Casper, WY
This is high country, so come prepared and come curious. There is no cell service and no WiFi up here — and most guests tell us afterward that the silence was the best amenity of all. You will rediscover card games, rocking chairs, long dinners, and the kind of sleep that only comes at altitude. Bring the ATVs and you can ride straight from the property onto thousands of acres of trails. Bring rods and you are minutes from alpine lakes. Bring the snowmobiles in winter and the cabin becomes your launch pad into untracked powder.
The Piton is managed by Wyo Stays, a Wyoming-based hospitality team that treats every cabin like a guest house we are proud to hand you the keys to. We clean and inspect before every single stay, we answer fast, and we are happy to arrange the extras that turn a good trip into a story you retell for years. Message us before you book — tell us what you are dreaming up, and we will help you build it.
The Space:
A newly built cabin with clean, modern finishes and genuine mountain character. Rustic warmth, a wood-burning stove, and a wrap-around deck that does most of the talking. Here is the room-by-room breakdown.
Kitchen & Dining (combined)
Full-size kitchen with full refrigerator, stove and oven, and everything you need to cook a real meal at altitude
Coffee setup for slow mountain mornings on the deck
Cookware, dishes, glassware, and utensils stocked and ready — guests consistently note how well-equipped the kitchen is
Open dining area that flows into the living space, so the cook is never left out of the conversation
Pantry basics and condiments are often on hand — a small head start before your first grocery run
Living Area & Wood Stove
Cozy living space anchored by a wood-burning stove — dry firewood and kindling provided
Rustic decor, comfortable seating, and big windows framing the peaks
A library of DVDs, board games, and a deck of cards with poker chips for the kind of nights you forget your phone exists
Queen Bedroom (main level)
Comfortable queen bed with quality linens
Quiet, private, and steps from the full bath
Window views of the surrounding meadow and treeline
Bunk Room (main level)
Sleeps three: a full-size lower bunk plus a twin upper
A guest favorite for kids — close to parents on the main floor
Extra bedding on hand for flexible sleeping arrangements
The Loft
Three queen beds, a couch, and a TV — the heart of the cabin for big groups
Sleeps up to six comfortably; families and friend groups love claiming it as their own wing
Open, airy, and full of light, with the best vantage on the morning sun hitting the peaks
“Our four daughters all slept together in the ample beds in the loft, which they loved.” — Trace, past guest
Full Bathroom
Full bath with a shower and plenty of hot water — a genuine luxury after a day on the trail
Towels and the essentials provided
Cleaned and sanitized to Wyo Stays standards before every stay
Laundry
In-cabin washer and dryer — pack lighter, stay longer, come home with clean gear
The Deck & Exterior
Wrap-around deck with rocking chairs and uninterrupted views of the Bighorn peaks
Gas fire pit on the deck for easy evenings, plus two more outdoor fire pits and a fire ring below
Multiple grills, a picnic table, and a hammock strung between the pines
Five private acres opening directly onto national forest — deer, elk, antelope, turkeys, and the bluebirds that nest here each summer
“Watching the sunset behind the mountains from the porch was wonderful, and there is a great wide-open view of the night skies.” — June, McCook, NE
Guest Access:
You have the entire cabin and all five private acres to yourselves — no shared spaces, no host on-site, just room to spread out and breathe.
Full, private use of the cabin: kitchen, living area, all bedrooms, the loft, bath, and laundry
All three fire pits, the grills, picnic table, hammock, and the wrap-around deck
Direct access from the property onto thousands of acres of surrounding national forest for hiking, hunting, fishing, ATV and ORV riding, snowmobiling, and simply wandering
Kayaks available on request — message us ahead of your stay and we will have them ready for the nearby lakes
Self check-in keeps your arrival easy and on your schedule. We will send clear instructions and your access details before you arrive, and we are only a message away the whole time you are here.
The Neighborhood:
The Piton sits in a quiet, gated mountain community in the southern Bighorns — private and peaceful, with friendly neighbors scattered across the hillside and a whole lot of nothing-but-views in between.
This is one of the best-kept corners of Wyoming for people who want real wilderness without a five-hour drive to the nearest town. You are surrounded by the Bighorn National Forest and within reach of the Cloud Peak Wilderness, yet still close enough to Buffalo for groceries, fuel, and a great meal.
Worth the trip from the cabin:
Meadowlark Lake — alpine fishing, kayaking, and shoreline picnics
Crazy Woman Canyon — a dramatic, boulder-walled drive and hike
Dull Knife Reservoir — a short drive for fishing and quiet water
Ten Sleep — world-class rock climbing, a beloved brewery, and small-town charm
Buffalo, WY — historic Main Street, the Occidental Hotel, restaurants, and full services
Cloud Peak Wilderness — trailheads into some of Wyoming’s most stunning high country
“Perfectly situated almost exactly between Buffalo and Ten Sleep. Peaceful, private, gated community... stunning sunsets and sunrises.” — Daphne, past guest
A note on the photos — we believe in showing you exactly what you are getting. The lakes and streams in the area are a short drive from the cabin, not on the property itself. What is on the property is the view, the quiet, and the wildlife — and that is plenty.
Getting Around:
You will want your own vehicle up here — there are no rideshares or services on the mountain, and that distance is exactly what keeps it so quiet.
Vehicle: A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. The mountain backroads and the driveway are steep in spots; AWD or 4WD makes everything easier, especially in shoulder seasons. Many guests visit comfortably in a standard vehicle in summer by taking the driveway slow.
Fuel & groceries: Top off the tank and stock up in Buffalo (about 30 minutes) or Ten Sleep before you head up. Bring what you need so you can settle in and stay put.
ATV / ORV: Trails run right from the property. Bring your machines and ride straight into the forest.
Winter: When the snow piles up, the final stretch becomes snowmobile, snowshoe, or cross-country-ski access — roughly 1.5 miles from the winter parking area. The owner has a tracked side-by-side and can help arrange access with advance notice. Tell us your dates and we will walk you through exactly what to expect.
Airport: Sheridan (SHR) and Casper (CPR) are your nearest options; Billings (BIL) offers more flights. Ask us about private airport transfers through Wyo Stays.
Interaction with Guests:
We give you total privacy and total support — you will feel like you have the mountain to yourself, because you do, but help is always one message away.
Because there is no cell service at the cabin, the best plan is to send any questions before you head up the mountain or whenever you drop into town and catch a signal. We answer quickly, and we genuinely love helping guests plan the good stuff — a private chef dinner after a day on the trail, a stocked fridge waiting on arrival, an ATV route worth your morning, or a celebration we can quietly set up before you walk in.
“Jade was very responsive and helpful with anything I needed.” — Spencer, past guest
Reach out before you book if you are weighing dates, group size, or seasonal access — we would rather help you get it right than have you guess. That is the whole point of booking with a real Wyoming team instead of a faceless listing.

Loved it overall! Everything we needed. We had trailers with us and driveway was a little steep. There was no cell/internet service, which was nice, but not sure what to do for an emergency!
Great place for peace and quiet!

Thanks Theresa, fyi, you could have used the 2nd driveway which goes around and above the cabin which is the way to go for trailers.
And yes, no internet forces people to stay off of their phones and is one of the best features to the place.
