James and Nikki are wonderful hosts. Coconut Cay has amazing views and amenities, including a pool and ocean views. The location is close to fun activities, restaurants, the ferry and shops. We would stay with tham again.
Such a cool place to stay. I will list the ânegativesâ just so you come prepared. Donât let these stop you from visiting!-Some doors do not lock. -The drive up to the house feels a little sketchy and dangerous (because of parked cars everywhere on the streets- but I think itâs just an old neighborhood. -Be prepared for barking dogs and roosters. -The property could use more rugs as it always felt like we were walking on a sandy, cold (in bedrooms) or slippery floor. -The front bathroom is the only one you can take a shower in as it has great water pressure and stays hot. The other is like a gentle rain shower on a spring day in Florida- with a similar and varying luke warm to cold temperature). -I am not sure if I missed it but there is no A/C in the common areas (only bedrooms) so you have to open windows and the screens have holes so it lets all the mosquitos. -Some windows do not close even in the bedrooms so they get bugs too. -It had a k cup coffee maker but no one on the island (that we could find) sold k cups. -If you are a hot tea drinker there is no electric or stove kettle. -Be prepared to rent or uber/taxi everywhere as most of the activities and restaurants are on the other side of the island. -Finally, it could use a little more personal accessories like shampoo, body wash, and a blow dryer in each bathroom. Other than these minor issues we still had fun and enjoyed our stay!
Family had an amazing time exploring the island. We loved the pool and view. Could have spent our whole vacation in the pool enjoying the view. AC was great and beds were comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.
We had an amazing time and loved the pool overlooking the ocean. Pulled in to a wild horse in the backyard! The whole place needs a thorough scrub but we loved everything else about the house and location. Would definitely stay again! And recommend to anyone staying on the island.
It was a short and sweet 3 days in Vieques. Great location, but no way we could get on the beach as it was rocky. We had easy drive to downtown and restaurant. The property could use a very deep cleaning in the bedroom and kitchen. We have to deal with tiny aunts all over our stuff. They even were on the bathroom and got on toothbrush, suitcase and purse. That was not fun at all. The day local management call us we were going to the beach so we decide on doing that on our short time at the property. Hope they will be able to do it before the next guest will show up. Thank you for allow us to stay in beayugul spot.
We had a great stay at this location. There was plenty of parking and beautiful view of the ocean. I would recommend this house for your stay in Vieques.
The best thing about the property is the location on the beach and pool/back deck. The property is in need of a lot of maintenance. The first few days we were there we were in contact with the property manager. Initially there was no dishwasher detergent. They then dropped some by. We then realized the dishwasher didn't work and the only time they could come fix anything was around 4PM as the handyman had another job. Which never worked for us as we were always out at the beach. So that is our fault as they were willing to fix things but the timing didn't work for us and they required us to be present to enter the property. So we stopped complaining but there was lots that needed fixing. The kitchen counter is tile and has multiple cracked and broken tiles. (It is hard to have a clean surface when things are broken). The bedroom doors are swollen from the moisture. You could force any of the doors closed or open but every time I would open the door to the primary room I would run into the door as it catches on the tile floor. I got very tired of this by the end of the vacation. The primary room window slats don't all fully close, so even with the ac on at night that room is hot. The light to the front bathroom is tied to the light in the front bedroom so if you wanted to use that bathroom in the evening you have to have the light to the bedroom on, which didn't work well with children sleeping. The fence around the trash is too short, the horse got in still and threw trash
The space worked well for our family, and bedrooms were all great for A/C. Everyone loved having the pool with the view, and honestly the pictures didn't quite do it justice IMO. Beaches on the island were amazing and they had so much gear available to make the beach day better (chairs, cooler, umbrella, ect.) We would stay here again!
This home is convenient to town & near the ferry terminal, as well as a variety of local amenities such as markets and restaurants. Although the main living area isn't air conditioned (which is common in the Caribbean), the AC in the bedrooms work great. The pool is as beautiful as it looks in the listing and provides views of amazing sunsets.
We stayed for 3 nights, there were 8 of us; 4 adults, 2 13 year olds and 2 10 year olds. Kids enjoyed the pool. We appreciated the short walk from the ferry. (less than 10 minutes and doable with rolling suitcases).
Million dollar views, for a two thousand dollar budget
We stayed here for 6 days at the end of April 2024.
And this property is the definition of balling on a budget.
The pool was great!
The views were great!
The house was goodâŠ
It was basic, with ac in the bedrooms, basic kitchen,
Basic living room, basic bathrooms.
With all the beach items you could need included!
Hope this helps.
This is a beautiful property and the pool alone is worth the stay. The local "grocery" is only a 5-10 minute walk from the house. (I suggest the Family Market over the Supermercado.) We had a problem with mosquitoes when we arrived due to the previous renters leaving doors open but the owners and property manager (Amanda) were quick to fix the problem and were warm and inviting.
A few tips before you arrive: Purchase your Ceiba to Vieques (and return) ferry tickets well in advance. They sell out quickly and your can't purchase them on the same day. Also, rent any vehicles (car or golf cart) before your arrival (We used UTV rentals). Finally, the beach in front of the property is very rocky and not great for swimming. Playa Caracus (Red Beach) was the best for our family. Some waves, pristine beach and friendly locals.
Our stay was unbelieveable and I highly recommed it! The house has all of the amentities of home (WiFi, TV, new kitchen, A/C) but we spend 90% of our time in the pool and enjoying that sunset. We LOVE this house!!
The property has a great view of the ocean. Itâs close to town and has beach items like lawn chairs and boogie boardsâŠ
It was raining when we arrived, and two of the ceilings were leaking water and there was water seeping in one of the back doors.
The cleanliness of the house was lacking. I walked from the shower to my room and my feet were black. The floor in the kitchen was sticky as was the microwave handle and the edges of several plates and bowls.
If maintenance was done on a regular basis and an occasional deep clean the place could be a gem.
We were in Vieques for a 9 day stay and wanted to find a place that was affordable and had a pool. Coconut Cay was the PERFECT place. The hosts were super helpful with all of my questions and the house did not disappoint!
Not to mention it had the most gorgeous view from the pool on the patio. We could not have chosen a better home. And, we will be back.
Pros:Pool was the gem of this rental. We were excited to jump in and cool off and just enjoy the amazing views and calming sounds. Walking distance to town and ferry. Lots of local shops with great food, coffee and drinks. Horses stop by each morning what a beautiful sight. Very spacious check in process easy Cons: Listed as beach/ocean front however no actual access to beach on the property. Air conditioning only in the bedrooms the house was very hot. Roosters woke us up every day at 4 am . Definitely need a vehicle to get to any of the beaches this should be listed on the website. Order tickets for the ferry online ahead of time. They give priority to residents so if you don't have a ticket and ferry is booked you may be bumped and potentially will not get on. We ended up having to rent a private charter boat at 800.00 to make it to the island for our reservation. The place could use some TLC The microwave has duct tape on it and one of the patio doors was not able to be opened to let in the fresh breeze. The house manager was not available when we called her she was at a Dr. Appt on the mainland told us nothing she could do about ants, roaches, and water pressure and we never heard from her again. We are pretty easy going /adaptable so enjoyed our vacation / home regardless.
A peace of heaven, a trip of a lifetime!! Coconut Cay is a beautiful property and Lucy , Nikki and the crew were fantastic!! Itâs all we expected and much more!!! Cannot say enough good about Coconut Cay and Vieques Island!!! We shall return!!!
Getting to the house is not the a nice scenery, but the property is great. The only down side is that the property is an oven . It was hotter inside the house than outside. After a hot day all you want is to cool off and it's impossible to do that with out A/C. Also the microwave didn't work. Other than that it was. Great place to stay
Loved the pool and outdoor areas right on the water! Went to sleep each night to the sound of the waves. Location is in a neighborhood just outside Isabel, which has a few places to eat, grocery stores, the ferry, and shops. 15-minute drive to Esperanza and 15-20 to a variety of stunning beaches. Beach in front of house didnât look like a good place to swim, but you canât stay on the nicer beaches anyway. Wild horses meander by the house from time to time. House has quality beach chairs/umbrellas and some nice floats for the pool. AC in bedrooms was appreciated and worked well/quiet. Beds comfortable! House is an excellent value and we were very comfortable there!
There is no better location. But the property itself is in need of some maintenance and repair. Windows and doors that don't open/close/lock properly, kitchen appliances that don't function properly, a ceiling fan with 1/2 the blades missing. A clogged bathroom drain that the prop mgr refused to address. The worst part is that the owner was made aware of most of these issues when I was last there in Aug, but the issues remained 5 months later when I returned.
We stayed here for a few days to relax and enjoy Vieques. Easy walking distance from the ferry or to town. Quiet neighborhood with beautiful views. Pool was terrific but no direct beach access. That's not a problem with easy car/golf cart rental. Got one for two days and visited some beautiful beaches. Definitely able to wind down and relax!
Coconut Cay is a charming home and perfectly located on the ocean in a friendly (but quiet) residential neighbor just outside of the vibrant town of Isabel Segunda. The home is well equipped for long stays. The endless view of the ocean from the swimming pool is hard to beat. We loved it here and have already planned our return.
A beautiful house about a 5-10 minute walk from the ferry to Ceiba. Little grocery stores and restaurants. Pleasant to walk around. El Yate was great for food, a 5 minute walk from the house. Beaches and party places are about a 20 minute drive from the house. You have to rent a vehicle. It is wonderfully quiet. The bedrooms have AC, but not the main rooms of the house. Washer and dryer are great!!
