This is a very nice place to stay for a few days . Check in was smooth and the host provided clear details. The kitchen is well stocked and clean. All the beds were comfortable and the place is clean. The hot tub is a very nice addition so is the space around it. We had a great time with family!
We really enjoyed our 4 nights at the Whitetail Lodge. Jay was excellent with communication and with answering any and all questions in a timely manner.
Access was easy and the cabin was clean.
The cabin was not quite as advertised. It says it was recently renovated but it looks like only the floors are new and some new furniture. The kitchen and bathrooms are still very dated. Bedrooms had plenty of clothes drawers and storage but the dressers were really old and clunky.
The 1 full bathroom is spacious but it is the only access to the sauna- making it difficult to use the sauna if someone is in the bathroom. The jet tub was not working when we were there.
The kitchen was well stocked but seemed to have decades full of extra dishes, pots, pans and miscellaneous items. The hood fan above the stove didnât exhaust and there is no dishwasher which isnât what the listing suggested.
The cabin was ice cold inside when we arrived and it took a while to heat it up after arrival. The kids were cold until the next day. Electric baseboard heaters throughout except for the wood burning stove.
The wood burning stove was a great feature with lots of pre chopped wood and kindling. The living room was a great hangout area to relax and play games or eat dinners.
The foosball table and dart board area were a great spot for adults and kids.
We had a great time at the cabin and enjoyed the resort all weekend. The items listed above are not deal breakers but compared to other Apex accommodations we rented previously at similar price point - this one seemed to lack some of the updates needed.
We felt it was good for our family of 4 but I couldnât imagine sharing this cabin with another family - mostly because of the 1 full bathroom only.
Hi Kenton.
Thank you for reply
I spent a lot of money with the furniture in that home and left only a few items in the bedrooms that it came with when purchased. My apologies for the clunky dresser upstairs. Did you not look at the pictures before booking. You would of noticed it as well as the outdated red kitchen counter tops. With regards to heat, all the bedrooms have electric baseboard heaters as well as the living. Thatâs the first Iâve heard that the cabin was cold. With the combination of the wood stove and electric baseboards I donât even use the heat upstairs when Iâm there in the winter and in-fact it gets so hot up there I have to crack a window. You ended up booking the best long weekend of the winter for $362 a night plus fees. Under $100 per person on Family Day Long weekend. The cabin sleeps 9 people and I feel thatâs excellent value. You would be looking at a 2 bedroom condo in the village for that price on those dates. Iâve had over 20 reviews on my other site and this is the only review that I have had where someone had something negative to say about it. If anything I find it more like nitpicking.
Beautiful house! Beware of noise from tenant and the walk to ski-out
Overall the trip to Apex was great! And for a group of all younger adults this is a beautiful and affordable option.
However, there is tenant suite attached (separate entrance). This information was not listed at the time of our booking (I believe this has since been updated). Quite a lot of noise transfers between the the tenant suite and this unit including tv noise. This was especially problematic as the tenant was up quite early (~530 - 630 am) during the week to commute to Keremeos. It disrupted my mother's sleep multiple mornings who was in a downstairs bedroom.
Additionally, the access to the ski-in ski-out trail is a substantial and steep walk. This was not a problem for the 30 year old's, but the 60 year old's with us decided to drive to the hill each morning.
For a group made of entirely 30 year old's ready to get up for first chair and then relax with a glass of wine in the beautiful main room, this place is great! For our mixed crowd, it was less ideal.
We had 6 adults in our group which I think would be the maximum for your stay as thereâs only one bathroom with a shower. We didnât have a problem with this as we werenât in a hurry to go anywhere each day. It was a bit tight for time on the last day having to be out by 10am đ
The cabin was lovely and clean and comfortable. We couldâve done with one more âcomfyâ seat in the living room so we could all sit to watch a movie. Overall we really enjoyed our short stay there.
Everything about our stay at the cabin was great. Our host took the time to email us before our stay with a detailed guideline on what to expect in the cabin (how things work- for example the wood stove) and many other helpful tips, including the tenant info. It wasn't mentioned in the ad but I don't feel it was needed as there was no issue at all and absolutely more than enough space !
The space was very clean with lots of extras- towels, bedding, all the kitchen supplies you need... even down to the laundry soap which i didn't expect.
Kids enjoyed all the extra toys, board games and fooseball table..
and i enjoyed the soaker tub !
Although it was an extremely hot 35+ degrees during our stay, it was cooler on the mountain and the ceiling fan kept it cool.
The drive to Penticton was as described only 30 minutes down the mountain. Just be aware that it is a bit of a tedious drive with lots of sharp turns, we didn't arrive until after dark and i felt like it was straight out of a horror movie driving up ! *NOTE.. drive up in daylight LOL and pull off to let traffic pass :)
** lots of wildlife sightings on the drive as well, deer, coyotes and a mama bear and her cubs :)
I would definitely recommend the Whitetail Lodge and cant wait to book again in the future.
We had a great time staying in this place. Just be aware that the listing is not very accurately described. You are not renting the entire house. Thereâs a tenant living downstairs. Although we had no trouble sharing the house with the tenant, I felt a bit nervous before arriving. There are only 1.5 bathrooms. For our group with 6 people, itâs okay.
Our family trip to Apex was fun and memorable! The house was clean, cozy and functional and only a few minutes' drive to/from the Village with a ski in and out a short walk away. Jay was an efficient and helpful host. We hope to return!!!
What a great place, our family just spent 3 nights at The Whitetail Lodge. Its perfect for young families, close to the village and the skate loop! Jay was excellent to deal with, very helpful and accomidating. We would definitely book The Whitetail Lodge again!
We were a group of two families skiing at Apex & Whitetail Lodge met our needs perfectly - games for the kids, lots of space for everyone to stretch out. The location was good, close to the ski-in ski-out trail and not far from the village. Jay was a very accommodating and helpful host. This property will be the first place we consider the next time we go to Apex and we'd happily book any other property this host may have to offer.
This property because it s a cabin / Chalet in the woods where you are close to everything nature has to offer. I'm also a huge skier and this mountain offers some of the best in terms of snow and all mountain fun.
