Charming 60's Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at Sand Dollar.
It's a charming, 1960's cottage with modern upgrades but also a lot of vintage touches. The bathroom with the sea green tile was darling. I can't comment on much about the rest of the house because, to be honest, other than the bedroom, we spent the entirety of our stay in the Florida room on the side of the house. We opened the windows to catch the breeze and sat out there reading our books or playing games on our tablets when we weren't out and about or on the beach. We absolutely LOVED the Florida room!
The beach access at the end of the road crosses the dunes, but the stairs at the end are missing and it's boarded off. There's another beach access just a block away, so it wasn't a big deal. We wound up going out in the mornings and just sitting on the edge and watching the sun rise before going to the beach elsewhere on the Island.
My only (minor) quibbles are two things:
1 - the kitchen is VERY small. For a lot of people that might not make a difference because a lot of people don't want to cook on vacation. We do like to fix vacation breakfasts and pack lunches rather than eat every meal at a restaurant and we found the kitchen a bit confining. So be aware. But other than that, the kitchen is well stocked and we were able to cook everything we wanted as long as only one of us was in the kitchen at a time.
2 - the bed in the bedroom we chose had a plastic mattress protector on it and it made sleeping REALLY hot. I understand wanting to protect the mattress, but the plastic was super uncomfortable.
But again, those were minor issues and overall the house was lovely, clean, comfortable, and in a great location to get anywhere on the Island by bike.
We will be back!!
