El Colmado Vieques' thoughtfully crafted interiors embrace simplicity while paying homage to the materials and craft of locals. Handmade metal doors and shutters punctuate the cement and plaster which serve as a canvas for the extensive collections of Puerto Rican ceramics along with mid-century furniture and objects from around the globe. An eclectic mix of ideas on architecture, design, and community come together here acknowledging convergence of diverse cultures, histories, and aesthetics that have both informed the island and influenced the designer. Each apartment forgoes walls for open floor plans and acknowledges its surroundings with porches, patios, and pathways that become the catalyst for seamless inside/outside days and nights. Every bathroom has an original design that welcomes the outdoors in, with custom cement sinks, rain showers and waterfalls all make for a delightful bathing experience. Designed with the intent to connect to nature, the open layout, industrial fans, and cool ocean breeze allow the natural island air to flow freely. No A/C available.
The entire compound has 3 kitchens, 2 king-sized bedrooms, 2 queen-sized bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms.
