Fantastic stay in a great cottage with lovely owner! Beyond clean and supplied with everything we wanted. Only hitch was that vrbo did not give us the code to enter the cottage but a friend helped us get in.
Sweetgrass Cottage was a great escape for us. Clean and comfortable it was in the perfect location for us to explore both Cayuga and Seneca Lake wine trails. Close to some very nice hikes we enjoyed our country getaway in the Finger Lakes.
We enjoyed all that Cayuga Lake offers. The house is very comfortable for 2/4 adults. It is very clean, AC was great on very warm days. Fire ring was fun in the evening
This is a very charming and quaint cottage that accommodated four 70 year olds very comfortably. The house provided us with everything we needed for our week-long stay. The location was perfect for venturing out to explore the Finger Lakes region. Seneca Falls on the northern tip of Cayuga - 30 minute drive; Ithaca on the southern tip - 30 minute drive. Watkins Glen at the southern tip of Seneca - 30 minute drive and Geneva on the northern tip of Seneca -30 minute drive. We particularly enjoyed the open front porch, with its very comfortable furniture, for our morning coffee - we could very much âease into the dayâ - every day! Roxanne went out of her way to make us very welcome - the fresh flowers were a vey nice and appreciated touch! Having just retired from a long teaching career, this was the perfect setting to unwind and start a new chapter.
We thoroughly enjoyed this place as our home base for exploring the Finger Lakes area. It's about 30 minutes to Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and Seneca Falls and is just up a hill from Cayuga Lake. The house was clean and had everything we needed. Quiet location was perfect for our stay. Highly recommended.
This is an excellent place to spend a week, close enough to the lake and all the naturally beautiful places Seneca County has to offer! We spent one day at Taughannock State park and one at Lodi State park, both a short drive and spent the rest of the time at Sheldrake point. The cottage itself is gorgeous, rustic and stylish. Wonderful stay, canât wait to come back!
The cottage was perfect for our trip to enjoy the finger lakes region because it was centrally located. Roxanne is a terrific host, easily accessible to answer questions about the area. We enjoyed the fire pit and many nights star gazing. We would highly recommend the cottage and hope to travel to New York again and stay at Sweetgrass! Kim and Tom
We loved the property and the location, especially the deck. Our only comment would be to have a can of Raid for ants because we had a lot of ants in the downstairs bathroom. We would definitely recommend this cottage to others and hope to come back in the future.
This sweet cottage comes with everything you need and has many thoughtful, cozy touches. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch and being in the country yet so close to wineries. The nearby farm stand had the best peaches and vegetables. The country road was quiet and we had a peaceful stay. We will be back again!
Everything was as described. A simple, charming, tastefully decorated cottage. We enjoyed the fire pit outside which enabled us to spend an evening with friends while observing social distancing. Nice short walk to Cayuga Lake at Sheldrake point.
Location to wineries and other attractions was convenient. Amount of interior space was sufficient for 2 people. Very comfortable bed. Picture of front of cottage is deceptive. Very small area in front and no space in the back or sides. Quite close to the road but not very much traffic. Property has morning sun but shady in afternoon
Roxanne's cottage was homey and adorable - the location was great - away from noise and light pollution, but with our rental car still a prime location for exploring multiple areas - seneca lake, cayuga, geneva, ithaca, and watkins glen. Roxanne's booklet and welcome information was accurate and descriptive - made it very easy to find everything we needed for grilling, etc. The only thing to note (which is in the description) is that the house uses well water, so we had to be very conscious of our shower lengths and had to use bottled water (provided) for cooking and drinking.
Thus far the experience has been great. The cottage is quaint, cozy, clean and has a kitchen that carries most of what is needed. Very quiet and a great getaway if you are looking just to slow down the pace. Downstairs bed is very comfortable. TV in living room is equipped with all the apps.
The grocery store in Ovid is very meh but it is close; however, there are Wegmans stores in nearby Geneva and Auburn and they are PHENOMENAL (on par with or exceeding Heinen's in Ohio or Publix in Florida).
Not alot of sit down food options nearby; again, you may need to travel to Geneva, Trumansburg, Ithaca, Watkins Glen etc for more dine-in options. Make sure to check out the Samich shop in Ovid on 96 across from the gas station. Phenomenal meat ball subs and lunch fare.
Overall, I would rate this 5/5 thus far.
It's a risk to commit to almost three weeks in a rental house you haven't seen and in a place you don't know, especially for parents having to manage remote work and two teens. But we had a wonderful experience. The cabin has a small footprint but is very efficiently designed and beautifully renovated with a craftsman's touch in the structure and an artist's eye n the simple and lovely retro/country aesthetic. The two teens were comfortable and content in the bedroom and loft upstairs, parents in bedroom below. The excellent wifi reached well out to the lounge chair on the lawn. With two separate porches, side and front, everyone could find his or her own space. We were lucky with good weather and front porch is great even in the rain. Situated between a wild meadow populated by butterflies by day and fireflies at night, and a cool ravine in the back, and with good mix of sun and shade, the property had perfect ambient temperature, breezy and moderate even on hot days. We enjoyed lots of morning birdsong, sightings of rabbits, groundhog, foxes, hummingbirds, and hawks, and robust voices of sheep next door and frogs at night. Swimming in the lake was glorious (but might get weedy as summer goes on). Bring or rent kayaks! The farm stand run by three generations, just five minutes walk up the street, has wonderful fresh produce. For those who like to cook, the old-fashioned match-lit oven and stove take a little getting used to but works fine. Enjoy!
Perfect stay here for the second time. The tranquility and comfort of all amenities was so nice! Thank you so very much for opening your home to us again.
