Beautiful pet friendly lodge in a quaint fishing village and sleeps 16

This spacious charming lodge is located in Engelhard. Boasting five bedrooms and two baths, this house could easily accommodate two families or a large group. We are pet friendly. Renters are responsible for any pet damage. There is a beautiful farm across from the lodge that has black Angus cows, horses and a small pond.

Pamlico Sound is just down the street. Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge (full of trails suited for hiking or biking) and Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge are both just a few miles away. The beaches of the OBX are 45 minutes away, including Kitty Hawk, NC Aquarium @ Manteo, Wright Brothers Memorial, Jennette's Fishing Pier, and The Lost Colony. Historic Bath is an hour away where you can learn more about Black Beard. Swan Quarter National Wildlife Refuge is 30 minutes away. Pungo National Wildlife Refuge is about 45 minutes. Eco Tours are available at neighboring townships. Charter boats and hunting guides are for hire in the area. Numerous State of North Carolina Game Lands surround the area.

Nice for a large group, We had plenty of room for our family of 7. The house was clean and comfy. Roanoke island/Nags Head is about an hour away. The plus side to that is that it’s very quiet with no traffic congestion. The negative is that larger grocery stores are a bit of a drive.

Home away from home

Great spot to just get away in the country. Quiet, small town that has lots of little fishing holes and excellent crabbing. Just a hours drive into town and beaches.

Affordable, well-planned rental for a larger group

We stayed for five days in the summer, with our son and daughter-in-law and their two school-age children (and our dogs). During that time, we also had our other two other sons visit. One spent a day with us, and the other spent a night also. We visited the Outer Banks on two days and explored nearby outdoor activities on the others. We enjoyed the great sky views and seeing the nearby farm and boat areas.

Perfect clean home for your ENC getaway

We came down for a hunting trip and this property was great. Great area in Engelhard, ample beds, spotless on the inside, fully equipped kitchen and so much more. The owners made us feel at home and communication was great with some spot on recommendations.

Wonderful House centrally located

We had a wonderful time staying at this property. It was close to Mattamuskeet for winter waterfowl viewing and not too far from the Outer Banks, Pungo Lake or Phelps Lake. The house was roomy and comfortable with a nice big kitchen and common areas and comfortable beds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This little country lodge was a home away from home. It was very clean and well kept. Enjoyed stay.

Relax and Recharge

The Gibbs lodge was a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the real world. Although it was a little more remote than we had anticipated, the amount of things to do in the Hyde county area was immense. The Gibbs family has quite a history in the area and they welcomed us with open arms. Great place to stay and relax.

nice get away

My family and I enjoyed staying here. We were able to visit many things in the OBX from here. The house was big enough for 11 of us and2 dogs. The owners love animals as there are chickens, horses and cows that come with this place.

Vacation to NC

In a quiet and safe neighborhood. The house within had lot of rooms and beds, easily sleep 12 to 14 people. On arrival the place was easily accessed and was neat and clean. The owner Caroline came immediately once we arrived. We understand she stays in that neighborhood. She was very informative and helpful throughout the stay. Caroline saw that our stay was comfortable. We could frankly ask her if we needed any supplies or information. Also, there was a listed information of the local stores and the sightseeing places and activities. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, kitchen wares and spices. All the appliances were in good running condition but of older model. The barbeque coal grill was rusted due to the elements since it was chained outside. We enjoyed the sunrise & sunsets which were very beautiful. Went cycling around the community since not much traffic. The outer banks are an hour drive. One night we enjoyed the campfire even though there was a lot of mosquitoes. So be prepared with insect repellent. Overall, both of our families were very much satisfied of the stay. Hoped we stayed a bit longer.

House was perfect!

House accommodated 2 families easily with room and seating for everyone. House was clean, plenty of towels and kitchen was well equipped. The drive to Nags Head was not bad (we did this 5 days in a row), and everyone we met in town was super friendly. Thank you Caroline and Greg!!

Engelhard Family Reunion

We had an amazing family reunion with our 5 children, their spouses/significant others, and our 4 grandchildren. The home was lovely and felt very "homelike." One of my grandchildren even said, "I keep forgetting we don't just live here." There were inside and outside games; plus a wide variety of viewing options on the smart TV. We enjoyed the large yard, fire pit, and bbq grill. Our hosts were amazing! So welcoming and kind with homemade monkey bread for our first breakfast and giving us so many good tips for things we could go and do and see. I can't say enough good things about our stay.

The Gibbs family goes back to days when Blackbeard called the OBX home. In fact my family descended from Blackbeard's first mate Gibbons, who had the choice to walk the plank or to be sent ashore at Gibbs' Point. Engelhard has been home for our family since the 1600s.

This property is very reasonably priced, unlike properties that are beach front. We include bed linens and towels at no additional cost. The lodge is one of the only rental properties in the area that can accommodate big/multiple families or groups. Very unique location that allows you to take advantage of everything our part of the world has to offer.
