We’re rating this room, 1B at The Melrose, very poorly first and foremost because there was NO smoke/fire/CO detector in the room. What a safety risk! I realized this at a 2am bathroom visit and of course couldn’t get back to sleep. The bracket is on the ceiling but the actual detector is gone. The room was advertised with a sound machine, also not present in the room. We expected a small room and it was, but with an even tinier bathroom…it has a tiny shower stall with mold along the base board and a toilet made for a toddler poised not 3 inches from the shower stall so adults can barely sit. The room is completely bare bones, with no extras of any kind…two towels, mismatched wash clothes, no bureau, bright but undimmable lights, slanted floors, and a 2-ish inch gap between the door and the floor flooding light into the room all night. The front porch was okay but had old sloppy furniture with pillows we questioned sitting down on. We would not recommend this place to stay (except that it was quiet, sheets were clean, and location was stellar…but we’ve stayed at 3 other places in OG that were as clean and near to beach and shops) in its current state and strongly encourage the owner to replace the smoke detector ASAP.
