Less than desirable

Although the host was able to accommodate us at the last minute as we ran away from hurricane Milton the house itself is old and lacking in basic things. It has wall AC units and the one in the living area looked to be full of mold. I turned it off. Some Remotes were missing which was no big deal. There were no cutting knives, and 2 spoons. No pans and 3 large pots for cooking. At quick glance it has cute beach decor and seems clean but if you look at the walls and corners, it’s filthy. The wall next to stove was caked in grease splatter. The beds were ok but had plastic mattress protectors that were rather noisy. I bought a blanket and slept on top. Location was across from a Walmart but kind of ghetto. I never felt unsafe but the roosters crowed all around us all day starting at 5am. Cute at first but then not so much. There was a tropical storm warning so it was going to get windy. I put away all the lightweight furniture and grill so it wouldn’t blow. Then I had to secure the hurricane clam shutters as some were banging around and 2 fell down. Seems to me the owner should have done that. We made the best of it as it wasn’t a vacation but a place to hopefully be safe. There is a cottage in back that is also rented out separately and those people decided to book a hotel after one night and had booked it for 3. Owner was ok for communication and like I said she tried to hurry to get us in early. And oddly there wasn’t a welcome booklet to talk about the house or the area.

Once the guest booked, she insisted on early check in and I tried to hurry as best as a host could to accommodate her request. She wanted to arrive in the morning when check in was not until 5pm, so being a good host, she had an entire day without extra charge. We had a lot of rain already for many days so I organized everything outside as best as I could but she was so impatient and expected the house to be ready sending me several messages. She told me she was coming from west coast and anxious to check in. I asked her kindly to please wait until she received my message. I was at my property at 7am until 130 rushing to make everything nice for her and guests , her insisting on early check in without paying extra. Myself I had to get my family ready for the storm but I put that on hold making sure she was all set. THE WEATHER CENTER didnt predict it would impact our area and actually said SHUTTERS WERE NOT NEEDED. She panicked and did anyway, sending me several messages throughout the day and the night telling me a remote wasnt working when everyone was on lockdown for this storm. I'm not sure if this guest has stayed at a vacation rental but she was messaging me like I was front desk. Also, I have a camera in front of the gate door and she gave me the middle finger frustrated that her remote control didnt work. Then I asked her to respect the others guests privacy and she intruded on them harrassing them with questions when they wanted their own privacy.
