Mesa Grande Band of Diegueno Mission Indians is proud to introduce you to our tribe—our history, lands and culture, our community of today, and our vision for the future. The beautiful Mesa Grande Tribal reservation is positioned 3,500 feet above Black Canyon on a high plateau adjacent to the Cleveland National Forest. A remote location, Mesa Grande is a quiet, scenic community just outside the busy streets of San Diego, California.

The reservation encompasses 1,820 acres and is home to approximately 130 of the Tribe’s over 800 enrolled citizens, many of whom farm, raise livestock, or commute to work in nearby towns. An additional 5,795 acres of land, although traditionally recognized as belonging to Mesa Grande, was mistakenly allocated to a neighboring Tribal Band by the United States Department of the Interior through Presidential Executive Order in 1891. The Mesa Grande Business Development Corporation (MGBDC) was created by the Mesa Grande General Council in 2016 to assume primary responsibility for the development and management of the Mesa Grande Band's business enterprises, and for leasing land and facilities on the historic Golden Eagle Farm, which the Band acquired in 2017. https://www.mesagrandebdc.com/

Long before it was a Thoroughbred farm, the Ballena Valley and other Ramona areas were home to modern day Mesa Grande Band's ancestors. These ancestors are the original aboriginal peoples who occupied northern San Diego county since time immemorial. Archaeologists have confirmed that our ancestors have occupied the region for at least 12,000 years. The ancestors of today’s Mesa Grande people lived here 7,000 years before the Pharaohs began ruling ancient Egypt.

Solitude and serenity! Enjoy a cup of coffee on the front porch overlooking Golden Eagle Farm fields and Witch Creek Mountain and bask in the sounds and smells of the farm. Bring your starry-sky watching gear and marvel at the constellations while listening to the nighttime wildlife.

Or use the Ranch House as your home base to explore all that the surrounding Ramona, Santa Ysabel, and Julian areas have to offer from hiking, unique cuisine and baked goods eateries, wine tasting, site seeing, glider plane adventuring, miner town exploring, to rodeo-going.
