Felt Strongly Deceived - our first bad review on VRBO
This is our first bad VRBO review. Due to the 1500 character limit I’ll focus more on the recourse options than the problem.
The VRBO listing is actually for the Pacific Edge Hotel (appears to be rated fairly poorly online) although they didn’t note the hotel name in the listing at the time of this review. Pacific Edge Hotel and Roompicks are going to have a class-action lawsuit if they keep up the practices we encountered below… we ran into too many people with similar complaints when we stayed here. It felt like a solid bait and switch with a non refundable booking and neither the hotel staff and manager, nor their rep, Roompicks, provided resolution.
If anyone else has similar problems, I encourage you to act on any or all of the following remedies:
1) contact the California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office (they allow online submissions).
2) contact the non-profit consumer protection group Travelers United (they seem to have great legal clout even over much lesser issues).
3) dispute with your credit card company
4) file a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
We will be doing the same. Feel free to note California’s three state laws that apply most clearly here: False Advertising Law (FAL), Unfair Competition Law (UCL), and Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA). Based on legal advice, we firmly believe they violated all 3 laws with us.
Also note: no elevator access at our building, no free parking within blocks, only valet.
