We had a wonderful time in Florence and Muscle Shoals. The property suits its name and is definitely a cottage. It is a place captured in time with very little updates. If you are a vintage sort of person, this place is for you! It comes with the weathering of time and the style of Grandma. The smell, although nostalgic, is prominent. The silverware might be original as well as all the books on the shelves and dishware in the cabinets. Communication with Troy and check-in was simple. There are plenty of towels, wash cloths, bedding and fans. Everything you need... The hill to the water is VERY steep. The neighbors have dogs who come into your yard and the squirrels visit every morning. The driveway is insanely steep and even for an SUV, not easily navigable. The door to the guest bedroom would stick and I couldn't get out without my husband pulling open the door for me. Water pressure was good, AC was cold, and everything was clean, just really old and worn. The bed in the guest room is a stack of mattresses and should probably be the next upgrade. Location was off the beaten path with easy access (15min and hills) to everything - so secluded and peaceful but in this case, it wasn't a place we wanted to write home about or invite people back to. It served its purpose for our family, but we'll probably invest a bit more in our accommodations for our next trip. Thank you, Troy for letting us stay.

Good place for fishing!

We enjoyed our stay at the house. The only thing was I did noticed that the place doesn’t get cleaned often when it comes to the kitchen and the coffee had mold in it so we didn’t use. Instead we boiled water for coffee. Overall, the place was very comfy and relaxing. We do plan on being back soon 😊 maybe for a longer trip

We apologize for the problem with the coffee maker. The issue was calcium deposits from the well water and the coffee maker has now been de-scaled. Kitchen will be spotless next time you visit.

Convenient, Peaceful Oasis

We were in town for a family event and the schedule was changing. The host went above and beyond to accommodate us. We let the kids have the upstairs and we slept peacefully on the foldout sofa downstairs. The location was near all we needed but it still felt secluded, private and peaceful. Coffee on the back deck, looking out over the river, was a true highlight. We hope to come back again!

Cozy Cottage

We were here to fish for a few days. This home gave us a covered boat slip with electric and direct access to lake. It was a very quiet area. The home decor reminds me very much of my home where I grew up which I did not mind. The home was clean with new carpet and flooring. The air conditioners worked well and you could adjust them for the rooms you were in. It had all the basic amenities that we needed. The only item that could be improved on would be the water pressure. For parking we launched the boat, then came back and backed the truck with empty boat trailer in the driveway. The driveway is steep so we placed blocks underneath the tires to make sure it didn’t roll downhill. There is an option to park vehicle with trailer on the shoulder at top of drive if not comfortable with driveway slope which is what we did prior to launching boat. Overall we had a good few days!!

We had an amazing time at the cottage. There was plenty of room for our party and my mom's two small dogs. We loved being right on the water and my son's favorite part of the stay was fishing right off the dock. We loved the esthetic of the cottage and we will definitely stay again if we plan on being in the area again. Everything was clean and we had all the basic supplies we needed. It was also only a 15 minute drive to any stores/shopping/restaurants. We loved the area as well. The downtown area was really neat. It was perfect for feeling like we were away from the hustle and bustle of life, but close enough to stores if we needed anything. The host was quick to respond if we had a question or needed anything. All around great experience!

This is the house where I grew up and is full of fond memories. We like to share it with others so they can make their own memories of Wilson Lake.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

This house is in a quiet peaceful neighborhood surrounded by trees. It’s a great place to play and relax.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

The property that the house sits on has been in my family for three generations. My mom, Bettie, designed the house and it was custom built for her 29th birthday. She spent the next 45 years there with my dad. We’ve kept it as original as possible with modern updates where needed. It’s where we like to relax and we are happy to share it with you.
