The host agreed, prior to booking, to be flexible in our arrival day by 1 day, since we were waiting for our son to get discharged from hospital after a major cancer operation. We informed the host it could be the 18th or 19th. He was discharged the 18th. (The host was updated on the 17th that it looked like he'd be discharged on the 18th.) When informed of this, the host seemed shocked that we were coming "early". Informed us the house was not ready and we would have to pay extra to have the house cleaned. We attempted to dispute this charge, but had no choice but pay it or have no place for our son to go to. The stove in the house was filthy, inside and out. The pots and pans had old food on them, peeling teflon, there was not a spatula or other very basic utensils. Very poorly supplied flatware and dishes. We purchased our own kitchen items to use during the stay. Then, the host had a person come to the house during our 4 day stay "to spray". After he sprayed, the roaches came out and were running everywhere. We left a day early because we could not expose our son to this danger! When we requested a refund of 1 day, we received no reply. And once we got home and unpacked our belongings, there were roaches in our clothes! We needed to have our home fumigated, on top of everything else. I have rented many homes over the years on all of the platforms and have never had such a horrible experience.
