Hawthorne House is a historic home in the heart of The Historic Sam Hughes neighborhood. This home has parking on the premises and is in walking distance to the University of Arizona as well as being located minutes from Downtown Tucson. The house is .5 miles from the SunLink pick up/stop located at 2nd Street and Warren Avenue on the U of A campus! Hawthorne House is right across the street from the UA mall. Everything is in close proximity… the football stadium (.37 mi) and McKale (.22 mi).

More than expected!

Kelly is an incredible and very attentive host! The house is even better than the pictures! Very clean, extremely cute and you can't beat the location! We stayed at this house while moving our daughter into U of A and the convenience of the location is superb, especially having to run back and forth to the University. The kitchen was well stocked, and the beds were very comfortable. We will definitely be coming back to this adorable house.

Visiting UArizona

We brought our daughter down to visit UArizona. This was a great property in a great location. Very clean, well-appointed kitchen, and space for us to spread out. My only suggestions would be to put some seating in front of the house as the heating/cooling unit behind the house is really loud and it's hard to enjoy. The beds aren't the most comfortable but for a few nights just fine! Will definitely stay here again if she decides to become a Wildcat!

Cheap,Cheap,Cheap

This house screamed cheap from the see-through toilet paper to the garage sale utensils and bed linens in the master. It is impossible to sit in the living room at night because the lights are designed to glare in your eyes, but there is no need to be there anyway because the tv only gets a few channels (only 2 local stations, but the Jail channel is there!), The bed in the master is truly a torture chamber and there is no soap in the attached shower. The front yard has all the ambiance of a prison yard. It was clean and in a good location; otherwise a thumbs down.

This was just a mean spirited review from a very rude guest that is hardly worth a response. I rated her with more grace and respect than she deserves. I think my reviews speak for themselves and we can tell Terry was nothing more than a bad apple.

Delightfully beautifully restored home

We totally enjoyed our stay at Kelly and Ben’s beautifully restored home in the Sam Hughes neighborhood. The hosts were amazingly responsive to anything we needed and they are amazingly friendly and helpful. The house is so comfortable with great beds, good lighting, spacious rooms and newly remodeled bathrooms that fit nicely with the historic character of the home. All the windows are new and the louvered shades are so stylish and easy to use. The location cannot be beat. The house was spotless. The best bike boulevard in Tucson (3rd Street Bike Boulevard) is one block away and this boulevard connects you with other bike boulevards and the regional trail system. RC Bikes, a 25 minute walk away is a great place for bike rentals. The University campus is a 5 minute walk away and the Tucson Street Car is a 7 minute walk away. The delightful and active Himmel Park is a 15 minute walk from the house and birding in the neighborhood is fantastic. This historic house, located in a fabulous historic neighborhood, is a special place indeed.

Location, Location

This is a lovingly restored historic home in the Sam Hughes neighborhood, on the National Register of historic homes, comprising at least a square mile of interesting adobe homes. We loved the location just across the street, but not too close to a major road, to the University of Arizona. We could walk to the campus for events and walk to the free tram whlch travels from the University to the far end of town. We think the property is newly offered and a few things were lacking initially but the very nice owners were quickly responsive in meeting every request. The master bedroom is quite large and doubles as an office. The two baths are nicely tiled with good showers and the kitchen is pleasant to work in. The two drawbacks, which cause us to give a 4 rather than a 5 star rating are the lack of a door between the bedroom and ensuite bathroom, and a loud blower fan in the gas forced air heating system which we found disruptive since it is just off the livingroom. The former can probably be fixed. The latter may not be as much of a problem in warmer weather but it was chilly while we were in Tucson and the furnace was on continually.
