The open concept apartment has a cottage style all its own. The perfect place for anyone wanting a break, getting away from it all, and just slowing down. Filled with antiques, vintage and original art, the apartment is ideal for a single or couple. The Large windows and 8’ ceiling give the feeling of space and light.
The apartment has all amenities including
Washer/Dryer, Wifi, all cooking utensils, dishes, linens etc. No dishwasher or TV This space is especially perfect for artists, writers, anyone wanting to experience rural Bonavista living at it’s finest. The studio is directly connected to the apartment. It is 12’ x16’ and has running water. ABSOLUTELY NO PETS and PLEASE NOTE!!!, maximum initial rental contract is 90days.

Winter Guests Please Note: You are responsible for own shoveling and plowing of snow. Shovels are available for your use. There are a few folks in town who plow. Best to call Town Hall for this years information

Location is perfect! Great view of Bonavista harbour, the north Atlantic, wicked sunsets and (in July) breaching humbacks! So much to explore nearby and the locals are "Best Kind"!

A delightful, private getaway

This apartment suited us perfectly - comfortable, well set-up and equipped to prepare our own meals. Interesting art, rugs and colourful bedding made us feel at home. Loved it.

The best ocean view in Bonavista!

We spent 3 nights/4 days at Ruth's lovely studio. The ocean is directly in front of you with huge panoramic windows to enjoy the sunsets, whales and seabirds. The location is easy to find and central to most area attractions. You could walk to the harbour/downtown area, but it was very hot when we were there, so we drove where we needed to go. Chairs and a little firepit right across the road provided a beautiful spot to enjoy the view and watch for whales. Bed was comfy, although extra pillows would be good, and lighter bedding for summer would also be useful as the beautiful duvets were pretty heavy. Air conditioning was appreciated! The kitchen was well stocked, and having a washer/dryer in the suite was great. One suggestion--some curtains or blinds on those big windows would be nice to provide some privacy after dark. Overall, this unit is highly recommended as one of the best places you'll find in beautiful Bonavista! Ruth was easy to reach, welcomed us herself, and responded quickly to any inquiries.

Hôte : Ruth Weller-Malchow

I was born and raised in Toronto, left on a two-week holiday and finally moved back, to Newfoundland, February 2015. The years in between I lived in Venezuela, Berlin and Munich where I raised my now 27 year old amazing daughter, Emilia-Louisa.

I had bought a sweet heritage salt box, “Alice House” in the classic CFA (Come from Away) story we hear about, on my first afternoon, in Bonavista, 2006. I immediately fell in love with this town, even though it had not begun its transformation to the “must visit location” in Newfoundland.

In 2010 I moved part-time to Bonavista for the summers, running the shop part of Neil’s Yard, the fore runner to the next generation of coffee/tea/restaurants and shops now located in Bonavista. My studio was upstairs, the shop carried the beautiful crafts of Newfoundland & Labrador Craft Council members, and we held many cultural events including monthly art exhibitions and readings by Newfoundland authors.

I moved fulltime to Bonavista from Munich, in 2015 to head Bonavista Creative, part of Bonavista Living, for its first 2 years, bringing you new shops, restaurants, and many arts related projects.

Next came the Bonavista Biennale 2017 of which I am an original steering committee member, and for which I was the location scout and community coordinator.

The next project I instigated, and helped establish, is Union House Arts, a community art space in Historic Port Union. The building is home to an art gallery, community kitchen, workshop space, studios, and an artist residence.

Of course I have these images as well, by local artists, BUT they are the unusual pieces I bought for decorating. There are Newfoundland hand crafted antique furniture pieces that fit in with the rest of the design. If you want unique....this is the space for you

I fell in love with this property back in 2008, took me a few years to convince the owners to sell me "the dump" that was on site. It's a long story which I will happily share with you when we sit out in the ocean front garden watching whales.
