Welcome to "The Spotted Tail".
We're opening our family's camp to your family! Relax waterside. Experience why Louisiana is known as Sportman’s Paradise. Built with 1940’s craftsmanship & charm, The Spotted Tail is the oldest camp on Calcasieu Lake (Big Lake) and recently updated with today’s comforts. It's located within sight of the boat launch at Hebert's Landing and is true Waterfront! The main lake is only steps from the back door. Come enjoy your catch of the day and a camp fire right next to the water or just relax in the hammock under the patio cover.

Beautiful water front house. Accurately described in listing. Host were quick to answer questions. Visited over 4th of July weekend. Wow, is all I can say. Kids loved the 30-45 min firework display. And will cherish the memories made here for a lifetime.

The fish camp was perfect for our 53rd wedding anniversary. We love to fish, crab and net shrimp. We got to do all three and cooked crabs twice once with shrimp also and had a trout fish fry. The house was very comfortable and well equipped for cooking. Our host was very prompt replying to messages and very helpful suggesting dining options. Although we only ate out once because we caught our meals. We had a wonderful time.

Weekend getaway

Amazing property to stay at. The owner was very responsive to any questions that I had from the time I booked and through the stay. Property was just as described and well furnished with dishes, games, cookware. We had a blast on the community dock that is literally out the back door of the property and caught some fish, shrimp, and crabs.

Cozy Fishing House

The house was very well stocked and the listing was extremely accurate. The house was within a short walk of the boat launch and right by a really nice fishing pier. I loved how the house was decorated and the owners were extremely kind and responsive.

We had an incredible stay at this property! The house was very spacious, with tons of space for everyone to spread out and relax. Great being directly on the water.The hosts were absolutely wonderful – responsive and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and will definitely return. Highly recommend!

What a wonderful retreat!

I loved everything about our stay here. From the great communication with the hosts, to the location, the gorgeous sunsets and the amenities - this place had it all. Great location ! Very informative host with a very cool house as close as you can get to the water. Boat ramp is 300 yards away. Great place to get away. Theres a hammock overlooking Big Lake with your name on it! Highly recommend staying here !

Taking grandson fishing

We loved the place. The dock was fantastic. Even though the weather wasnt the greatest, the house had plenty to keep our 12 year old grandson occupied.

House was great with beautiful view of the Calcasieu Lake and perfect for viewing sunsets. Located 2 minutes from the Launch and had nice parking space.

Hello! My name is David and my wife is Crystal. She has lived in Lake Charles her entire life and has been heavily involved in the community so she is your “go to” with questions about places, events, people, etc… I am a transplant from Texas since 2004. I definitely call Louisiana home as well. Do you have any questions about why we’re called “Sportsman’s Paradise?” Come at me bro! Heck, if I’m free I’ll take you fishing with me during your stay. We have a large blended family and our world revolves around family life. We absolutely love traveling with VRBO ourselves because it allows the flexibility to travel affordably as a family in the comfortability of a home. Feel free to book with us instantly or reach out if you have any questions or want to chat about anything in the Lake Charles area.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

The neighborhood has a "retirement" like feel to it. You will see the occasional golf cart cruising the quiet streets. Fisherman launch only a few hundred yards away from the camp at the nearby marina.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

The camp itself is a bit of a legend in the area. 1940's craftsmanship. There are even newspaper articles of a married couple breaking into the camp to ride out hurricane Audrey when they got trapped in the area as it made landfall in the '50s! Such a cool camp! Story has it that the camp has withstood so many major hurricanes because it was built by a mason who laid bricks and rebar for Angola prison. This original structure was built with the same fortress like craftsmanship.
