Escape to a Scandi-style earthen home on a secluded, privately owned lake in Lakeville, CT. Swim from the dock, paddle by canoe or paddleboard, relax on the living grass roof, and cook in a chef’s kitchen anchored by a La Cornue range. With just two other homes around the water, this peaceful 3BR/3.5BA retreat sleeps 6 and offers rare privacy, modern design, and easy access to Millerton, Salisbury, the Berkshires, hiking, and more.
The space
Welcome to your private Lakeville escape — a Scandinavian-inspired earthen home built into the landscape and overlooking a secluded body of water in Connecticut’s beautiful Northwest Corner.
The setting is what makes this stay truly special. The lake is actually a privately owned former ore pit — a beautiful piece of the area’s mining history that is now surrounded by woods and wildlife. Only two other private homes sit along the water, both set well away from the house, creating an incredibly peaceful and secluded atmosphere.
Start slow mornings overlooking the water. Swim directly from your private dock, head out on one of the paddle boards or canoe, cast a line, or simply settle in and watch the wildlife. For an entirely different perspective, step onto the home’s living grass roof and take in the surrounding landscape.
Inside, clean Scandinavian lines, natural materials, soaring spaces, and expansive windows keep the focus on the outdoors. The chef’s kitchen is a standout, with high-end appliances and a beautiful La Cornue range designed for memorable meals together.
Spend evenings grilling and dining outside, make pizzas in the tabletop Ooni oven, or gather around the fire pit as the light fades over the water.
With three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, the home offers plenty of privacy for up to six guests. Two lower-level bedrooms each have their own en-suite bathroom, while the upstairs bedroom has access to a separate full bath that also conveniently serves the main living and dining level.
For those mixing a little work with their escape, fast mesh WiFi and two dedicated workspaces make remote days easy — though the lake outside the window may be distracting in the best possible way.
This is boutique hospitality with heart — professionally managed and thoughtfully prepared so you can focus on slowing down, reconnecting, and enjoying this extraordinary setting.

Other things to note
This is a rural waterfront property surrounded by woods, water, and native wildlife. Seeing deer, wild turkeys, bears, birds, insects, and other animals is part of the experience of staying in the countryside. While the home is professionally maintained and regularly serviced, occasional encounters with insects, spiders, mice, or other country critters can happen, particularly during seasonal changes.
The lake is a former ore pit and can be deep. There is no lifeguard on duty, so children should always be closely supervised around the water and dock. Swimming, paddling, fishing, and use of the provided watercraft are at guests’ discretion and are weather dependent.
The living grass roof is accessible to guests; as with any outdoor surface, please use caution during wet, icy, or otherwise slippery conditions.
This is a pet-free property.
Exterior security cameras are located at the front entry gate and overlooking the property entrance/garage area.
