We needed a cabin by the river to decompress from a busy tourist season (we are locals) and this was just far enough away, and just enough river and woods. Enough space to have the family over for a cookout, and a cozy screened in porch for coffee and dessert with them afterwards. The bench by the river is the best place for morning coffee.

This was our second year at Balsams on the Betsie. Three generations, 14 in all, and it was just lovely! The large screened in back porch is everything. Quiet mornings listening for birds, a perfect morning coffee setting.David provides 4 kayaks and this year for sure, they were well used. The large kitchen island makes food prep easy, and a great place to offer buffet style meals.Thanks, David and Kim for providing a great cabin for our family’s Christmas in July.

Our family was very happy with this house and the outdoor activities, from volleyball, bike riding on the road, frisbee, throwing football….Inside, we had spaces to spread out and do different things, including games downstairs, tvs in different rooms, making meals together, playing board games in the living room, sitting on the from & back porches. It was really hot the week we stayed. Air conditioning was very comfortable. Owner always replied to my texts. We had a great stay. Thank you.

Great stay! Convenient to Crystal Mountain and David was an excellent host. We cooked every meal and the house was well stocked. Kids and adults took advantage of the game room.

Great family getaway

We enjoyed the area, float down the river, alpine slide, macwood dunes, light houses, grill outs, fires at night, loved all the games in the house on a rainy day with cozy movie night, zip lining, mackinaw bridge. Overall a great trip!

Wonderful get-away!

We really enjoyed our stay at this property! It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay- the kids really enjoyed the game room, and it was very conveniently located to Cyrstal Mountain for skiing. The only extra thing that would have been nice to have would be a hot tub, but otherwise no complaints!

Family Ski Weekend

Great for extended family trip

Had a great time with extended family trip. Loved the genes, arcade, outdoor fire pit (gorgeous). Everything was well cared for and plenty of details attended to to make it so fun & stress free. We would recommend and we’d stay here again.

We visited Balsam on the Betsie for a special winter retreat and we all had a wonderful time! The beds were very comfortable, the fireplace was beautiful, the kitchen well stocked. There were plenty of places to sleep and blankets to keep warm. The game room was a great place to hang out with the kids, especially since it was winter. The trail to the river was beautiful, and the grandkids enjoyed throwing snow balls into the river. The location is very peaceful and quiet. Crystal Mountain Resort was just a few minutes away and we enjoyed dinner there in one of their igloos. David was very polite and responsive and we appreciated his hospitality. We completely enjoyed our stay and highly recommend!!

Family vacation

Stayed with extended family for a hiking/kayaking trip Plenty of space and well laid out for large groups. We kayaked right from the cabin and it worked great! On a dirt road that worked well for bike riding/walks.
