Quiet relaxing Cabin in Wellington backed up to Daniel Boone National Forest.
Important – Please Read Before Booking: Cardinal’s Nest is located on a rural road. During winter months, snow and ice can make the road and driveway rutted, icy, or temporarily inaccessible. A 4x4 or AWD vehicle is strongly recommended from December through March. Winter weather is unpredictable, and access cannot be guaranteed during or after snow or ice events. If conditions make access unsafe or prevent the property from being properly prepared, the reservation may be delayed or canceled for guest safety, with a full refund or option to reschedule.
Escape to a tranquil cabin in Wellington for a relaxing getaway. This beautiful 2-bedroom retreat offers all the essentials for a comfortable stay. Whether you're planning a long vacation or a quick weekend trip, our brilliant cabin is the perfect spot to unwind and create lasting memories. Just 5 mins from Cave Run Lake’s Longbow Marina & steps from Daniel Boone National Forest. Sip morning coffee or enjoy sunset views on the deck, grill with forest views, or gather by the fire pit under the stars. Perfect for hiking, fishing, boating, hunting and exploring Red River Gorge, with dining and shopping nearby in Morehead & Frenchburg. It is about 25 minutes drive to Morehead State University if you wanted to visit a relative or watch a sporting event.
As you step through the door of the Cardinals Nest, the first thing you’ll see is our fully equipped kitchen, ready with everything you need to cook a great meal. Just beyond the kitchen, there’s a cozy dining area with seating for four and a laundry room off to the side.
From there, you’ll step into the inviting living area with a comfy couch, recliner, and a propane fireplace perfect for cozy evenings. We’ve got video games, playing cards, and Uno ready for some family fun. Plus, if you have extra guests, we have a blow-up mattress so you can accommodate up to six people comfortably.
Heading upstairs, both bedrooms have comfy queen-size hybrid mattresses and Samsung TVs. One bedroom even has a walkout porch overlooking the Daniel Boone National Forest—perfect for your morning coffee.
Outside, you’ll find a front porch with a small table and chairs, an upper back deck for lounging, and a lower back deck with a barbecue grill and seating. We do ask that you bring your own charcoal and firewood if you’d like to use the grill or the fire pit.
For parking, we have a spot right by the cabin and an upper parking area for those without all-wheel drive. If you’re bringing a boat, just let us know in advance, as the road can be tight and there’s no turnaround space. And of course, we just ask you to be mindful of the neighbors and keep everything clean.
Overall, the Cardinals Nest is a welcoming space that makes everyone feel at home, whether you’re here for adventure or just a peaceful getaway.
For your convenience, we offer easy self check-in using a keypad lock. Here’s how it works:
Keypad Code: On the morning of your check-in, we’ll send you a personalized code for the keypad. Just enter this code to unlock the door and make yourself at home!
Wi-Fi Access: We know cell phone service can be a bit spotty in our cozy, wooded area. If you have any trouble with your phone signal when you arrive, don’t worry! We’ll provide the Wi-Fi password along with your keypad code that same morning. Just hop onto the Wi-Fi and you’ll be able to reach out to us if you need anything.
Backup Option: In the rare event that you run into any issues with the keypad or connectivity, we have an alternative access option available. Just let us know, and we’ll guide you through it.

We had a great stay at the cabin. The cabin was well taken care of and very clean. There were so many extra touches (laundry, coffee/snacks, new dish sponge, extra towels, ice, etc. that really made our trip relaxing and feel like a home away fromhome. Steven, the owner, was friendly and responded quickly to a couple questions we had about stores nearby. We were about an hour from Red River Gorge/Daniel Boone National Forest, and the cabin was a great place to come back to and relax after hiking. We really loved the fire pit and looking out among the trees from the porch.

We visited with our two children for a hiking and biking trip and had an amazing time. The property was exactly as listed and the host was excellent with communication. The property had the necessary amenities to make the trip comfortable and relaxing for the family. There is a great forested area as pictured behind the fire pit that is great for evening fires. Highly reccomend!

I am from Cincinnati, Ohio I love boating, hiking, offroading, fishing and hunting. Pretty much anything outdoors makes me happy. I love hosting because I get a chance to help people enjoy some of the same things I enjoy so much. Hearing the great experiences that people have gives me great satisfaction, knowing I was able to help them have those experiences.
Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement
My family and I enjoy the Cardinals Nest so much. We enjoy spending time out on the lake, hunting, hiking and going to the Red River Gorge. It is so peaceful and quiet which makes it very nice and relaxing on our visits away from our busy lives.
Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique
The Cardinals Nest has a great fireplace area to relax and tell stories on the cold nights. When its too cold it is nice to relax inside and warm up next to the gas fireplace. There is a TV in both bedrooms if you just want to wind down and watch some TV before bed which makes it easy to feel at comfortable and at home.
