Sandy Creek Cabin - Authentic Log Cabin

A rustic cabin getaway with all the comforts of home. This is the perfect location to either have the ultimate outdoor experience or just stay cozy inside and enjoy the rustic ambiance. This property is close to a variety of outdoor attractions including the Kennerdell Overlook, Sandy Creek Bike Trail, Allegheny Bike Trail and scenic Freedom Falls. Enjoy the rustic space while still having access to modern luxuries such as wi-fi, a smart tv and a full kitchen.

The space
Cozy Sandy Creek Cabin warmly welcomes you to come and unwind in this unique and authentic log cabin. This cabin is situated on a cleared property close to a variety of outdoor attractions. Local amenities and activities include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, golfing, fishing, hunting and biking. A few miles down the road from this cabin you will find direct access to the Sandy Creek bike trail, which connects you to 42 miles of paved trails, giving bike access to the cities of Franklin, Oil City, Emlenton, and Foxburg, along with countless river views and two railroad tunnels! Also just down the road is the Kennerdell Scenic overlook, Freedom Falls and the historic Rockland iron furnace. The cabin is located just miles from access points to state game lands No. 45, over 5,000 acres of public hunting land. Approx. 12 minutes away is the Cranberry shopping area that includes a Walmart, various stores as well as numerous restaurants.

Guest access
During your stay you will have access to the entire cabin and backyard area. You will be the only ones staying on the 4 acre property. The neighbor's house and yard next door is separate from our cabin property and guests are not permitted on their property. Keep in mind you will likely see other vehicles driving onto nearby properties (this isn't a cabin completely secluded in the woods but rather in a rural neighborhood area).

Other things to note
Please keep in mind this is a very rustic cabin; you might see the odd lady bug or wasp, additionally the logs are a bit rough so the walls and beams may not pass the white glove test.

There are some lower beams in areas of the cabin, if you are taller than 6 feet you may want to be aware of this.

A window AC unit is in the living room and in the main level bedroom during the warmer months. Please keep in mind there is no AC unit in the loft bedroom upstairs

Nice cozy cottage with good wifi in a nice area. The fall colors were just starting to change near Seneca, so lots of beautiful scenery. I was there for a QRS piano player system installation training, and it was only 5 minutes from the factory. Thank you!

Cozy Historic Cottage

Windy Hill Cottage was the perfect home away from home during our recent trip to PA. It easily accommodated our family of 4, plus a fur baby. Great communication with hosts, who anticipated our every need. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed our stay at Windy Hill Cottage. The cottage was very clean and well stocked. We loved the rural surroundings and property. The setting with the cornfield, pond and trees with fireflies was magical.

Beautiful rustic home

This charming house was perfect! The location is beautiful. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had all needed to cook out meals. The host was easy to communicate with and very helpful. We hope to stay here any time we return to this area.

Adorable Cottage

This well-appointment cottage was perfect for our stay. While small, we had everything we needed and then some. Our family enjoyed quiet evenings on the porch, watching the deer bed down in the fields behind the home. Perfection!

Mini get away

We mostly enjoyed the warm country atmosphere and loved the cottage farmhouse decor! We ate and played cards, worked on a puzzle and enjoyed each other’s company. Franklin was so close we did some shopping and ate at Ale To Trail. Great food and the beer tasting was awesome. We’ll be back.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Windy Hill Cottage. We found it spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped for our needs. My only suggestion would be to add a mattress topper or a softer mattress on the beds. Would definitely return should the opportunity present itself again.

Family business trip

My wife and I are vendors at a local event and try to stay in locally owned B&Bs as well as VRBO establishments rather than hotels. This property was one of our favorites. It was exactly what was advertised, off the beaten path, quiet and relaxing. The owner was fantastic with communication and the place was very clean and inviting. I highly recommend it. Thank you for offering this place. We'll be staying here again next year.

Outdoor Exploring

Good, central spot to explore the parks and trails in the area. House was very clean and very comfortable. The two upstairs bedrooms are reached by a steep set of stairs (with a handrail) and have low ceilings (the eaves). Not an issue for us but might be difficult for some.

Peaceful cottage

We rented Windy Hill Cottage for a weekend away to attend a family reunion in nearby Oil City. The cottage was cozy and included everything we needed. Check in and out was breezy. It was lovely to sit on the porch and listen to frogs in the pond and birds in the trees. The only caution I will share, especially for older guests, is that the stairs to the second floor are unusually steep. There is a handrail and a first floor bedroom, however. Overall, a comfortable stay!

Don't hesitate to book this one!

We spent a weekend here to do some hiking in nearby Oil Creek and Cook Forest state parks. This house is darn near perfect. It is so well put together, everything is new, it is exactly as pictured in the photos. Super clean. We didn't do any cooking inside but the the kitchen was very well stocked, the outside grill was clean. We enjoyed sitting outside on the porch. Owner was easy to reach and responsive to a question we had. I really can't say enough good things about this place. Be sure to walk around the pond, there are a ton of frogs and we saw literally hundreds of tadpoles. Highly recommend this home.

Cozy, Warm and Welcoming

I realized I would be arriving two days early driving across country from the NE panhandle, I sent a message inquiring if the property was available two days early two days earlier than my original arrival date. They replied promptly and offered to add two days to my reservation. Within a few minutes my reservation was updated; 6 hours later I arrived to a very well lite home. The gas fireplace was on and the plugin heaters were an additional layer to a very warm welcoming. I loved the atmosphere and layout of the property. I only have one complaint, but not a deal breaker. The mattress was not comfortable although there was a foam pad on the mattress. (I usually travel with a thin air mattress for this reason). I will definitely stay here again and highly recommend this beautiful historical country farm house.

We have stayed in this exact house the past several years of our trips to this area. We love the location, the amenities, and the house itself. The owner went out of her way to make our stay perfect. Her communication is excellent. She went above and beyond to accommodate us in every way possible. We have been staying at vacation rental properties for years as we travel around the country, but I can say without a doubt this one is top tier. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend this property. We definitely will always seek to stay here each and every time we are in this area.

One-night getaway for games and catching up

This is a beautifully restored farm cottage with everything we needed for a game night among friends. It was clean, well presented and at a very quaint location. The small kitchen was perfect for us to prep and serve food that we brought. One note for fellow board gamers, the kitchen table provided a good space, but the chairs aren't too comfortable for longer sessions. The living room is very comfortable for between game relaxing. In hindsight, a folding table for playing from the couches would have been a huge plus. We found the house to be surprisingly quiet. Couldn't find a squeaky floorboard upstairs. It is very close to the main country road, so passing traffic could be a bit noisy, but it was very quiet at night and didn't really bother us. We look forward to staying again in the spring or summer when we can make use of the deck and fire pit. The view is beautiful as well. Thanks for a great getaway and the flexibility on check-in.
