COULDN'T USE: Home not clean and ready for us to use for Valentines and Birthday get-a-way.
I was told at the last minute that a handyman was working on one of the bathrooms due to a flood, and the owner, Dorothy, hoped he would be done on time for us to use. He finished 2 hours before we arrived, and the home wasn't clean. According to Dorothy, the home was cleaned after New Years, 6 weeks prior to our stay, but the home had been used...dirty toilet, bathtub, counters, table tops, trash in the trashcan, dirty dishes in the dishwasher and dusty furniture. Especially now, with COVID, one would think special attention would have been paid to cleanliness. I contacted Dorothy, and she apologized for the home not being clean and ready. After several phone calls, she wasn't able to get a cleaner and sent the handyman over. He was upset and made it clear that he was a "handyman" and not a "house cleaner". He even stating that "this what you get with VRBO". At that point I contacted Dorothy again, and she offered to cancel and give a full refund. I agreed to cancel and to the refund. In the end my family had to rent a hotel room 20 miles away only to drive home the next day extremely disappointed. The next day Dorothy contacted me to send her an e-mail describing the uncleanliness of the home, so she could speak with the cleaning person. I sent her the e-mail along with pictures as evidence of the uncleanliness. After nearly a month and several e-mails and phone messages to Dorothy, we haven't heard from her. We hope she is still working with us to solve this fairly.
