A classic French country house.Beautifully furnished with some nice touches, such as a record player with classic French albums.A country kitchen equipped with everything you need, and outdoor space big enough to lose your entire family in!Throw in a pool, table tennis, and plenty of games in the cupboard, and you're all set for your perfect family holiday.The local boulangerie is less than 10 minutes away and the supermarket just over 15.La Rochelle and Île de Ré are a day's outing if you so wish, but if you just want peace and quiet then this is the place.

Our second time at La Batonniere. It is the perfect setting whatever the weather. Super hot this time around and much use was made of the pool which is super lovely and big enough to properly swim in. Perfect for two families.

The hosts had been in touch since we booked 6 months before, and answered all of our questions and queries. The house was ideal for the 6 of us (older couple and 2 x younger newly weds and partners). The house and grounds are extensive and well equipped (inside and out), with plenty, of space and nooks and crannies allowing one to find individual space, if needed. There were few hard and fast rules, and the interior is homely, quirky and everything one could hope for. It is typically French, but with all creature comforts, glorious utility room with everything one could need, and the ecclectic spacious kitchen was a paradise for us foodies. It simply ticks every box that we required with immense style.

A wonderful big house that accommodated us eight perfectly. It is well maintained and has an enchanting atmosphere. A big, well equipped kitchen that invites to cook all together, a big pool that was the center of day-to-day activities, and enough spaces to read calmly. The house is located in a very quiet area. The garden is huge and well kept. We loved the market in Niort and visited it several times. La Rochelle and the surrounding beaches are amazing.Amanda and Ian are attentive and very friendly hosts. We were always well informed and they responded on all questions quickly.

Wonderful holiday

Fabulous property, perfect for two families with children. The house is very well appointed and the grounds simply lovely. Lots of room for garden games and the pool is a very welcome retreat in the heat. Trips to Coulon for the Sunday market, barge trip and lovely restaurants highly recommended. And skip the nearest bakery in favour of that in Verruyes for the best croissants.

A truly superb vacation.

Had a fantastic stay in a beautiful house with extensive peaceful surroundings. The accommodation was superb.The bedroom and bathroom that we used were very luxurious. Similar to a 5 hotel.One of the best pools we have experienced and we have now stayed in 35 properties in France.Communication from owner and house manager was excellent. Thought Niort was very classy and Secondigny had a good restaurant by the lake. Would definitely recommend a stay.

Great Holiday

Great house for 8 of us. Would have given it 6 stars if it had air conditioning. Temperatures were high thirties. Lovely quiet rural setting but within 30 minutes of large towns. Communication and contact was very very good. Would recommend to anyone.

Relaxing

This is an absolutely stunning property. It is very quiet, but just a short drive to Parthenay's shops and markets. It's the only house that we've gone back to. I think that says it all.

Idyllic

Quiet, peaceful and luxurious. It's a beautiful property in lovely grounds, well maintained and equipped. The hosts were welcoming and friendly and we felt like they really cared about us enjoying our time there. It was perfect for us - there was plenty of space for adults and small child, the rooms and beds were very comfortable and the swimming pool was wonderful. Highly recommended.

Amazing place

We stayed here for two weeks in August. The house and grounds are truly amazing, the owners seem to have thought of everything. We were two families and there is plenty of space both inside and out for us to do our own thing. The pool is huge, with great views over the surrounding area. Lee and Jayne (who manage the property) were really helpful without being intrusive. We would highly recommend this property. We will be back!

Amazing house in an amazing setting

Chose this property to spend my 50th Birthday and could not of picked better. We all had an amazing time and will defo be back. Thank you Ian and Amanda for the thoughtful gift for my birthday… you made my day extra special. The house, the grounds… the pool… incredible. We have stayed in plenty of VRBO properties and this absolutely is one of the best 2 ranking if not THE best! Thank you for allowing us to stay… we will absolutely be back!

Beautiful, relaxing house in lovely grounds

The house has 4 large luxurious bedrooms and is furnished to a high standard with very relaxing furniture. There was lots of room for our group of 10 (6 children and 4 adults). The TV room and lounge are very comfortable and the kitchen large and well supplied with equipment for lots of home cooking. The kids loved the pool and the adults loved the table tennis table. Many nights were spent outside looking at the stars on the numerous clear nights we were lucky enough to have. There are patisseries, boulangeries, supermarkets and interesting towns (Parthenay and Niorts) a short drive away.

A rare gem

La Batonniere came fully up to our expectations for a relaxed holiday in a fascinating part of France with many opportunities to explore the countryside, culture and food. The house is very comfortable for a family of four (two teenagers) and two grandparents with plenty of space, indoor and out (including pool, bikes, tables, chairs, umbrellas etc) for everyone. The owners, Amanda and Ian have done a great job fitting it out as a relaxing home with everything you could need for a two week stay. Simon and the team looking after the house were extremely helpful and responsive. All in all highly recommended.

Fantastic French family getaway

Spacious, well laid out, beautiful house that comfortably accomodates extended family/friends holidaying together. Amazing hosts that are friendly and accomodating; nothing is too much trouble. The pool is a gem with all the outdoor space and furniture you could need. Likewise in the house, there is everything you need from cooking to family games. Lots of places to visit, we asked for some recommendations from the hosts who are full of knowledge. Coulon is lovely! You will not be disappointed! Family holiday

The house has been beautifully furnished with some lovely items and great bathrooms. The picture of the property and grounds shows beautifully manicured gardens but this was not the case - whilst we appreciate temperatures were very high, there seemed to be no garden maintenance- everything is parched and thistles and weeds are in abundance in the grassed areas, with a 2 year old walking around this was a problem. We were advised on arrival that the pool liner needed replacing and indeed the pool was not, in our eyes, of the standard we would have wished for. There were a number of issues which we were in touch with the owners about and they were responsive. They assured us that our points would be taken into consideration going forward. Overall we enjoyed our stay but it is often the little things that cumulatively become bugbears.

We are very pleased that our team was able to deliver groceries, arrange babysitting and respond quickly to special requests during your stay and we hope this contributed to your enjoyment of your time in rural France. La Batonnière is set in 8 acres of countryside and the grounds are carefully maintained by our team as a well-tended country property and not an ornamental garden. While 2022 has seen lovely weather for most guests, extreme temperatures in July made for dry landscapes across Europe. We do not water the lawns at La Batonnière for sustainability reasons and the landscape changes with the seasons depending on temperature and rainfall. We find this part of the charm of the property. We are pleased to say that works are indeed planned on the swimming pool for the 2023 rental season though it remains in full working order for the remainder of the 2022 season and is getting much use and enjoyment by guests. Beautiful property in a sleepy village

We stayed at this stunning property for the last week in August and had a fantastic stay. We were two families of three, with two 15yr-old boys and dogs! The house is absolutely fabulous, beautiful and large bedrooms, a lovely kitchen and dining room and surrounded by fantastic gardens. The weather was unfortunately a little hit and miss, but on the warm sunny days we had a great time hanging out by the pool, playing boules etc. The boys borrowed the bikes and took themselves off to the football pitch just down the road in the village to make use of the goals and then came back and spent time in the pool. The house is in the village of Vouhé which is very sleepy and doesn’t have any shops. The nearest town for bigger supermarkets and restaurants is Parthenay about 15 minutes away by car. As long as you’re organised this works fine. Although it was a little disappointing not to have easy access to a local boulangerie for morning bread and the most local bakeries were sold out of croissants by 8am so we had to go further afield. A learning for us was that many of the restaurants were closed as owners were on their summer holiday! So there were limited choices where we could go that would take dogs and were open! We did enjoy an evening at La Citadelle in Parthenay. Also be aware that you must book restaurants on a Sunday; many places are closed and those that are open are busy! A wonderfully relaxing and peaceful break and Ian and Amanda always available on WhatsApp.

Fabulous week

We had such a wonderful week at La Batonniere The house is in the middle of nowhere and one of it many plus’s points, it’s was so peaceful and the setting is simply stunning. However you could drive to local towns easily and not to far 10 minutes to a huge supermarket. wildlife was also amazing, butterfly’s, moths, bird life and a red squirrel! Not to Mention the two cow neighbors. It has something for the young and old. My son could boot a football without the ball going close to roads or flowers, something he doesn’t experience in our own garden. The pool was very warm 28, our week wasn’t the best weather wise but we still used it every day even in the rain! The small touches….Zara bath and moisturizer different smells in the en suits and main bathroom, all smelled amazing! The seating in the garden all very comfortable, the kitchen had everything to Cook up a storm, or the bbq was very adequate even for my bbq mad partner. Fresh herbs in the garden to use for cooking. The communication from the host and management all connected via the same what’s app they arrange before you arrive, any questions or issues where answered or sorted so quickly, something I have only experienced in 5 star resorts. The Wi-Fi is also great for streaming and general use, it’s a big place and yes there are dead spots but the boosters are everywhere even by the pool area. The house is also beautifully decorated and a lot of thought has gone into every room. We would recommend!

Agréable séjour familial dans la campagne poitevine

Semaine de détente dans un beau manoir confortable et meublé avec goût. La piscine est un "plus" très apprécié des plus jeunes en particulier. Accueil très chaleureux des gestionnaires sur place, ainsi que des propriétaires à distance, tous totalement à l'écoute et soucieux de notre satisfaction.
