Great Weekend

Home was beautiful, clean and comfortable for our friends. We hosted a dinner one night and just enjoyed the outdoor porch. Wish we could have used the outdoor fireplace but next time!!

We fell in love with everything at this location. Everything was perfect! We enjoyed our stay so much that we literally did not want to leave. The beds were very comfortable. My family enjoyed the pool more than they did the Frio River. We are already planning to book this place again soon!

Making memories at the Frio

What a great place! Loved the outdoor space! House layout was fantastic for multiple families. Everything well stocked. Had a couple of small details that needed to be addressed (nothing major, just prior damage to a chair) and the house manager came over to assess immediately. Overall a wonderful week. Highly recommend!

We had a great stay, but this is the first time I had to travel with sheets, blankets and towels. I didn't like the fact that they don't offer this. I've rented a lot of properties and this is the first one, that doesn't give you that. The locks from the doors, don't work. So before going to take a shower or use the bathroom, you had to tell everybody, so they wouldn't go and open the doors. I tried to cancel the stay just about a week after I booked, because I didn't realized it was that far and having a kid with a disability is hard to travel by car long distances. They didn't want to return any of my money because it was in the contract, which it was, but again this is the first time a property doesn't allow for cancellations. Did we have a great time? yes. Are we coming back to this property? No.

We know bringing your own sheets and towels may not be what you’ve experienced at other rentals, which is why we make sure to share that detail multiple times during the booking process — in the listing, in the rental agreement, and in the pre-arrival info — so guests can make an informed booking decision and plan ahead. As indicated in the listing, we provide mattress protection, pillows, and blankets/comforters, but many of our regular visitors actually prefer to provide their own sheets and towels for comfort and familiarity. We also provide our exact location before booking so guests can see the distance and decide if it works for their trip. Our cancellation policy is outlined and agreed to when reserving, which is why we aren’t able to refund outside those terms. Thanks for letting us know about the door locks — we’ve passed that along to maintenance. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you have wonderful travels ahead.

Country fun!

Our three generation family of 10 rented this spacious house during the Texas eclipse of April 2024. It was very comfortable and we used all of the facilities. Kids loved the pool and sand volleyball. The family gathered each evening around the fire pit. Beautiful stars And large field behind for privacy. The runners and bike riders had plenty of space in the area. And the nearby Frio River Crossing provided a really chill way to spend a day. I would highly recommend the house and area if you’re looking to get away from it all. The one caveat, you will need to bring all towels and bed linens. This was a lot to manage for a large group. Not sure why linen service cannot be provided. The kitchen is well stocked with plentiful dishes and equipment. But plan to bring everything else right down to the ice, garbage bags, salt and pepper. We found it a bit cumbersome. To be fair, all of this was well communicated in the rental info. Otherwise, we loved the place! It fully met all of our needs. Your choice to just stay at the house and relax in the peace and quiet or go exploring the area.

Family vacation 2022

We loved the house, it was very spacious enough room for all 16 people. The pool was a good size only thing it got dirty fast with the leaves and twigs falling from the trees. My only complaint was the water pressure the three nights we were there and couldn’t shower after being in the pool. We called the 830 number and was told they were working on the water pump the first night. This low pressure only happened at night during the day there was enough water pressure to wash clothes and bathe so we couldn't understand why. But overall we enjoyed our stay at Texas Star.

Mixed Feelings

The house was pretty much as advertised. Definitely needs a new coffee maker, but everything else in the kitchen was satisfactory. You won't have a blender problem...there were like 5 of them! We were not aware we needed to bring towels, sheets, paper towels, and toilet paper until the day before arriving. The beds could definitely use an upgrade. The pool was semi-clean, the skimmer was broken and we had "rig" it to get the leaves and other things out of the pool. The two things we absolutely were not planning for, the electricity went out the first day for 5 hours and the second day 2 hours. We also discovered a mouse in a drawer of a side table in the living room. Nice surprise on our last day.

Hey y'all! We're Brannon & Wendi Hightower, owner-operators of Frio River Resorts.

We met in college in 1995 and have been together ever since. Frio River Resorts was started by Brannon's parents nearly 20 years ago and it has been continuously Hightower-family-owned and operated the entire time, with us buying the business in 2018.

We're local and we live in Concan full-time and enjoy serving as stewards of our community with participation in local boards and volunteer organizations. You've likely seen us on River Road as you leave on Sunday supporting the Concan Volunteer Fire Department in our “Fill The Boot” fundraising campaigns, or out to eat at Neal's or House Pasture.
