The house location is spectacular with magnificent scenery, no neighbours, peaceful and quiet place. The house is neat and tidy. It has almost got all you need for the household thingy.

Our stay at Carbreck was absolutely wonderful. The home was spotless, beautifully maintained, and perfectly situated for a peaceful countryside escape. The scenery around the property made the visit unforgettable — gentle rolling fields, quiet stretches of greenery, and those wide, open views that seem to slow time in the best way. Morning light across the landscape was especially beautiful and set the tone for a relaxing day.From the moment we arrived, our host Gillian made everything effortless. Her communication was quick, clear, and genuinely thoughtful, and she went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay.The house itself is cozy, comfortable, and full of charm, with all the little touches that make a trip feel memorable. Between the beautiful setting and Gillian’s exceptional hospitality, we felt welcomed, relaxed, and completely at home. We would return in a heartbeat and highly recommend Carbreck to anyone looking for a scenic and very relaxing stay.

We make every effort to leave our houses spotlessly clean and comfortable, leaving enough useful things in them to make a short stay easy and comfortable, but leave room for your belongings. A nice property in a unique area in the mountains, the weather was cool very windy occasionally some sunshine. Facilities good, you need to have the underfloor heating on all the time, which is to pay for depending what electric you use.

Thank you for taking time to send in a review. We really appreciate it. Glad you found the facilities good and that you enjoyed your time in the highlands. The weather can be so changeable up there but we find if cool or cold it as best to leave the floor heating on all the time as much cheaper to run rather than turning it on and off. Charging for electricity gives our guests choice as many are out and about and maybe use the woodburner. Thank you for leaving so clean and tidy and staying with us.

Lovely old cottage with modern facilities, characterful and comfortable, in a splendidly isolated position, though on the main road north.Gillie was such a lovely and helpful host, and Lin sent clear and useful information about my arrival and access. All in all a great stay and a privilege to be able to spend time in this wildly beautiful and sparsely populated part of the North West Highlands.

What an amazing trip you had and wonderfully supported by public transport. The weather was so changeable but the photos you provided showed off Carbreck’s position to its finest on that hillside. Carbreck really does have views for miles . The cottage is well placed to travel in either direction. Certainly having that great weather was such a bonus. Sorry no BBQ. We do have some disposable ones we can provide for a small fee. Thank you for finding us, staying with us and giving us a review.

Comfortable cottage in a stunning landscape

The owner has thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable. It's around 10-15 minutes drive from Durness but is situated in beautiful mountain landscape. The cottage is easily accessible though, being on the Durness road.

Carbreck is equidistant to Durness and Kinlochbervie with Spar food shops and petrol stations in both. Walks straight out of the cottage are easy or more challenging depending on your mood. A wonderful escape

Many of the glorious beaches are pretty empty and one can enjoy fantastic walks along them. The views from the cottage go on for miles enticing you out into the big open spaces. An uplifting experience.

Peaceful and Serene

We loved our week stay in Durness. The host was great and the house had all the amenities we needed. Beds were comfy and the shower pressure excellent. It was a good place to stay to visit the North Coast, from Durness to John ‘O Groats.

New Year Stay

Spent 7 days over new year in this lovely property. It was remote and had stunning surroundings, just the break we needed. Excellent communication with host.
