Pros
The villa is in a fantastic location, in the middle of olive groves and melon fields, within driving distance from local amenities and beaches, and is private and peaceful. The pool, pool area and landscaped grounds are fabulous. We particularly enjoyed having morning coffees on the terrace with the early morning sun shining down and enjoying the relaxing sea view and the evening swims to cool down.
Cons:
* It is not sumptuous, merely functional
* We could not use the air conditioning as the remote control was missing and this wasn't mentioned to us at the time of booking (that said we are grateful to Tony for being responsive and fixing the problem).
* You will be hit with a hefty bill at the end of your stay if you use the air conditioning, even sparingly
* Make sure you do a full inventory check on arrival and report any pre-existing damage or else you may be blamed for all sorts, and take meter readings.
* Beware of the cleaning lady/agent who in our experience is utterly inefficient and unreliable (unsatisfactory cleaning, beds made with duvet covers instead of sheets, towel chaos, the list goes on)
* the villa does have satellite tv but all the channels are in German or Italian.
Tony was a great host (fluent in several languages) and met us at the property to answer any questions.
The location is away from the town along a long country road so a decent car with good suspension is recommended. This was ideal for getting away from the hustle and bustle and enjoying the beautiful scenery and quiet. Having said that it is only 7 minutes from Carovigno by car and only 15-20 from Ostuni and the beautiful beaches along the coast. We found that most places we wanted to go were usually within an hourâs drive making it a good base.
It was very hot during our stay and most local places close during the afternoon so we would usually retreat back to the Villa and relax. The Villa is well maintained and equipped with facilities for cooking and has a landscaped garden. We had 3 children in our party so the pool was perfect for them to enjoy in the hot weather.
Overall it was exactly what we wanted and we would throughly recommend this property.
The villa lived up to our expectation and we could not have asked for anything more. Everything was great from the pool to the bedrooms to the landscaped grounds. Particularly enjoyed having morning coffees on the terrace with the early morning sun shining down and enjoying the relaxing seaview. The kids definitely enjoyed the pool and running around on the grounds. Absolutely breathtaking! Highly recommended!
My wife and I plus our two teenage kids spent two wonderful weeks in August at Villa Spina. The four bedroom house offered everybody privacy in their rooms while the open design of the common areas made for great family interaction. The facility, including the generously sized pool, were in top condition, which further enhanced the experience. Easy access to various towns and villages as well as the sea makes the spot ideal if you're looking for a relaxing time among the olive trees away from clubs and crowded tourist areas. Highly recommended!
Although we were a little early in the season - we had a wonderful holiday at this great spot. The layout of the facility was perfect - 4 bedrooms, 2 baths and spacious open concept kitchen, dining and living room area - all on one floor. Having said that - we spent most of our time outside either beside the pool, or on the large patio area enjoying a BBQ, the view of the sea and lovely garden as the roses and many of the other plants were already in bloom. We enjoyed visits to Carovigno, Ostuni and Lecce.
My family and I stayed there for two weeks. The house is very clean and the layout of the house is great. There are 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms and this allowed my spouse and I to have our 'wing' and the kids had their 'wing'. The kitchen, living room and patio are all open concept so I always had an eye on the kids.
The pool was my favourite part, it is perfect for exercise and to play because it is the same depth so we could always touch the floor. The area is very quiet, and while you have dinner on the patio you have a view of the ocean.
You do need a car to get to places, but I guess that comes with wanting the peace and quiet we were looking for. It is safe and the grounds are big enough for the kids to run around and enjoy themselves within the gates of the house.
You are only a few minutes away from really good Italian restaurants and the market at Carovigno (great finds for souvenirs and good food to bring home and cook). You must try the restaurant Fantasy, everything was delicious (we went 3 times!) and they have good 'to-go' pizza to enjoy at home with some good wine.
We went to the beach a few times, but enjoyed being at the house with the pool just as much. It was easy to go for day trips to Brindisi, Bari etc and we saved a lot of money because we'd usually come home for a late supper.
I'd recommend this home if you are going on a family vacation, if you want more of a party and nightlife vacation you might not enjoy the location. Next time we want to take the ferry to go visit the Greek islands for a few days while we are there.
Villa Spina allowed us to have one of the quietest and relaxing holiday we have had in years, we are already planning to return soon.

The sea, olive trees, the colorful vegetation and the tranquility of the area led us to buy a piece of land in Carovigno and build our home away from home.
