We were so upset about this review! A kitchen cupboard contains a supply of light bulbs of varying type. We have a handyman that would change the light bulbs. After we received this review we asked our cleaning lady to check all the lights and replace any not working. She reported all lights working. If you still remember, please let me know the specific ones so we can have those looked at closer. Our deck is very secure and save! The area mentioned, along back side of lower deck. The enter length of the back side is supported by a concrete bench. This bench is not perfectly level so there are some spots where there is a very small gap between the deck’s beams and the concrete bench. This cause a small movement if you stand right on the end next to the brick wall. We had my whole family over while we were staying there during July which is over 30 people which we would have not done if it were not save. As for the furnishing true it's not modern, but in very good shape. For example, the mattresses were all replaced 3 years ago with with ‘hybrid’ foam coil mattresses. As for our house not fitting in with the neighborhood a lot of the neighbors live there year around and some even torn down the houses and rebuilt. Our house has always passed the city’s rental inspection and code. The 2 items regarding safety is what we take seriously which is why our actions and response focused on these items. Every customer has a right to express their opinions and we respect that right. Just not sure this was the proper forum to express opinions regarding the complexity of neighborhood. Over the 40+ years that we have lived in this house on and off, the downtown town area has changed a lot. Sincerely, Kristi and Doug

Hi Jan, We are happy you enjoyed your stay. I am sorry I did not tell you about the bedroom windows! The windows do open they are not paint shut, there is a pull latch on each window that opens them up. The home was inspected by the city in July 2021.Thank you for telling us about this I will start telling new renters how to open the windows from now on. Thank you, Doug and Kristi

We have never had a renters complain about the cleanliness of our house. We have received many compliments on how clean our place is, and we have had the same house cleaner for many years. I would have asked our cleaning lady to correct the problem you were having if you contacted me while you were staying there. We also have been told how comfortable our home is. We have replaced all the mattresses in our house except the sofa bed mattress. Thank you for letting us know. I am sorry you did not find our house to your liking. I would like to first respond to the issue regarding the water bill. Within minutes of this guest notifying us of this item it was taken care of and the guest was notified. This issue came up due to an error in the auto-debiting of the bill. This was the LAST communication we received from this guest until they notified us that they had left. Not until after they had left did they decide to share their problems with us. We have a handyman on call for if any issues arise during a guest stay. Regarding the items they site as problems. Unbeknownst to us last month our neighbor had removed a section of their fence that ran to the back corner of our garage. Until this happened the backyard in including the part up a hill behind the garage was all fenced in. Until we can have the fence replaced we have removed the comment from our Homeway listing. Its no excuse but, you have to climb over short rock wall go under some a pine tree and finally push through some brushes to notice the fence is not there The afternoon they left we had both our handyman and cleaning person in do look at the toilet and oven. The cleaning lady responded the oven have a few small bread crumbs in it but, could find nothing that would cause it smoke. Her test of the oven showed it was functioning properly. The handyman repeated flushed the toilet but, was unable to replicate the guest comment that it would fail. Regardless the chain has been replaced. We are puzzled about the sump pump comment as the home does NOT have a sump pump in the basement or anywhere on the property. There is a water & dryer that is available to guests and used without incident by our cleaning lady after each guest to wash linens and towels. We don't understand why at no time did this guest contact us. As previous reviews and dozens of emails from guests show one of the things they like about renting from us is how quick we are to resolve any problems that may come up. We stand by the condition of our home as is evidenced by the review we received from the couple that stayed immediately after them although this review appears before this theirs in the listing.
