Lupe, We have a very different perspective as to what transpired during your stay. 4 out of the 7 desert cities have banned short term rentals due to guests choosing not to abide by the city ordinances. Unfortunately your group was one of them. We are very careful to ensure that all guests understand the city “rules” so they do not get fined, disturb the neighbors or put the owners permits at risk. There are two main desert wide ordinances that carry huge fines for guests and owners: no amplified sound (music) outside and no one outside in the backyard after 10 pm. Your group chose not to abide by these rules. You were informed of these rules, as well as the disclosure of a security camera multiple times prior to your arrival. The city rules and camera disclosure are listed on the VRBO website in 2 different places, they are also listed in the house agreement which you signed: you initialed each paragraph confirming you understood -no music, 10:00 curfew and there was a security camera. In addition to this, the access letter, House manual and “Palm Springs Good Neighbor Brochure”, which you received through VRBO, lists and explains all of these ordinances. Once you arrived at the house I personally face timed you and went over each ordinance which is a requirement of the city. I communicated multiple times “no music outside”. The city has zero tolerance and put these rules in place to protect the neighbors. When the next door neighbor called me to alert me that you were playing loud music in the backyard I was extremely surprised. Your group chose to disregard what we personally discussed at check in putting the owner’s permit at risk but more concerning, disrupting the neighbors. This is a serious issue here in the desert. I would never raise my voice or belittle a guest but the tone in my voice was meant to convey the severity of the situation given that the previous evening you assured me you will follow the rules. Most vacation homes have security cameras and they are on 24 hours a day. In the homes I manage the owners do not have access to the camera, only I do. I do not look at camera footage unless I am alerted by the city or a neighbor that guests are choosing to disregard the city ordinances. It is a privilege to rent these homes and we want to continue to serve and host our guests. The owners in the desert cities where short term rentals have been banned only wish they still had the opportunity to do so. We in Palm Springs do not want to lose this privilege. -Louisa
