Secret Garden Guesthouse

This updated, two-story brick guesthouse is situated behind an 1850s single house, within a private walled garden with brick courtyard, mature plantings, fruit trees and a bubbling fountain. Enjoy mornings outside with coffee, or wine in the afternoons – the garden is yours.

Once inside, you’ll find a charming and cozy two-story home. Downstairs features a fully-equipped kitchen as well as a living room with a small dining area.

Upstairs is a large bedroom suite with a king bed, sitting area and bathroom.

The house has wide pine flooring upstairs and original fireplaces in each room.

Guests have dedicated off-street parking in the driveway and access the garden and guesthouse through a private garden gate. There is a lockbox near the gate which allows for self check-in.

This 2-1/2 story brick house near the corner of Rutledge Ave. and Montagu Street was built around 1850 by James and Elizabeth White. It originally had several outbuildings including a carriage house, privy, kitchen house, along with a “good well of water.” Only the two-story brick kitchen house – where our guests stay - survives today. The two large fireplaces downstairs indicate this building was used as a kitchen and also likely as a laundry space. The current owner grew up in this house and it has remained within her family for 50 years.

Outside space for guest is the two chairs and bistro table by the water fountain on the very back wall. Please leave the large table right in front of the carriage house for the owners enjoyment.
