The cottage is new and nicely laid out. The bathrooms and bedrooms are just as pictured. Proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia is fantastic - less than 5 minutes to each.
However, I was surprised at the lack of supplies given that for 3 nights our total cost was almost $6000. There was a sample size of laundry detergent, 4 dishwasher packets, and hand soap. That was it! Having stayed at many VRBO properties in the past, we are accustomed to having dish soap, body wash or bar soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and basic cooking supplies like olive oil, cooking spray, a few spices, etc. I would suggest if you fly in to Bangor as we did, make a stop at a Dollar Tree to pick up the basics before you get to the island.
We weren’t able to hand wash the wine glasses as requested since we didn’t have any dish soap so we had to leave them in the sink. Also, the owner asked us to start a load of towels before we left which we gladly would have, but we weren’t able to comply since there was no laundry detergent left.
Also, we were instructed not to use the fire pit, so realize that is not an option even though it’s listed as an amenity. It really wasn’t a big factor to us since we were on the go so much. Additionally, there is only a couch and a chair in the living room, so all 5 of us could not watch TV together without pulling a in dining chair, which weren’t very comfortable. There is no place to sit or place a suitcase in the bedrooms except on the beds themselves.
All in all, this could be a spectacular place to stay with a little more attention to the above details. It is a beautiful home with a a great location!
