Athena Elea is a recently established luxurious villa, built using our family's old stone warehouse as a basis. It carefully blends traditional elements with modern aesthetics and comfort. The interior includes 3 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room/dining room and a kitchen. Throughout the villa's space, modern style meets selected elements of the family's tradition, including wooden hand-crafted furniture and century old textiles made by our own great-grandmothers. The villa's 1600 sqm plot features millennium-old olive trees, a swimming pool (40 sqm) and plenty of space for relaxation and family activities. A unique feature next to the villa is a small renovated shrine, built by the owner’s grandmother in the mid-20th century.

Stylish and contemporary villa in perfect location.

We had a great 10 days in this beautiful, well equipped villa and would highly recommend.. The location is perfect for exploring the West part of the Island. We felt warmly welcomed by Apostolos and family who were very generous with lovely Cretian food gifts and having organic fruit and veg from the orchard was delightful. We were particularly impressed with the wide range of recommendations in the area from supermarkets to beaches which made our trip even more special. We did have a small issue with the internet but once Apostolos was aware, he sorted immediately. Overall an outstanding property.

Splendid villa in superb setting and marvelous hospitality

This villa is exactly as gorgeous as advertised! We spent two fabulous weeks either relaxing amongst the old olive trees by the great pool, cooking wth fresh organic veg from ‘our’ garden in the well equipped in- & outdoor kitchen or exploring charming Crete as the secluded location is the perfect base - mountains, beaches, Chania, hikes, gorges etc.nothing is far. Furthermore the enthusiastic and very generous host Apostolos (and his lovely family) truly spoilt us wth the famous Cretan hospitality and contributed to this exceptional holiday experience! ευχαριστώ πολύ efcharisto poli !!

Immaculate, modern property with exceptional outside facilities and stylish interior furnishings. The villa is ecologically friendly and extremely comfortable with efficient heating / cooling technologies and automated exterior lighting. Conveniently located for Chania, the coast and local attractions, this property provides an ideal location for enjoying western Crete. The owner, Apostolos, could not have been more welcoming and hospitable and was on hand to greet us on arrival. His gifts of fresh fruit, vegetables and family produced olive oil were greatly appreciated and having access to the villas excellent herb garden was a real bonus for anyone with an interest in cooking in the well equipped kitchen. The outside entertainment area, replete with pizza oven and BBQ, is a place to enjoy long sociable evenings and the amazing pool (one of the best I have enjoyed) is difficult to leave as the afternoon drifts into the evening. Highly recommended.

Great stay in Chania

Fantastic property. Stayed with 2 families. The host could not do enough, great advice and we enjoyed picking fruit and vegetables in the garden!

Hello, my name is Apostolos. I work as a professor of environmental and climate science at the Technical University of Crete. My wife (also an academic, but additionally a musician), daughter and I moved to Crete in late 2019, after spending more than 15 years in wonderful places abroad. We lived in different cities in the UK (London, Cambridge, Brighton) and the US (New York), and also, earlier in our lives, in Thessaloniki, Greece. But we are Cretans - we were privileged to have grown up in this beautiful land. I, personally, have my fondest childhood memories from this farm, where my grandparents used to live until the close of the 20th century. With my mother (named Athena!), we had the dream to revive it, but to do so in a way that harmonically blends the old and the new. We maintained the old warehouse of the farm, which was built with beautiful local stones, and with that as a basis, we created a luxurious villa that blends with the surrounding landscape. The villa is named 'Athena Elea', after our 5-year old daughter and my mother, who had the inspiration for building this villa. 'Elea' ('ελαία') means 'olive tree' in ancient Greek, a symbol of goddess Athena in antiquity. Impressive olive trees are also a dominant feature in the plot surrounding the villa. They were planted by the Venicians, nearly a thousand years ago.

Being hosted by truly local people who grew up here, but have also traveled extensively and lived in different countries/cities - a perfect combination for having the perspective of both a local and a tourist! By the way, upon arrival, we provide a welcome document which includes lots of info about the villa and the area, as well as practical information and suggestions about things to do (and eat, drink, see etc.)!

Bonus: Right next to the villa’s plot, we maintain a 4500 sqm organic orchard, in which the guests are welcome to take walks and explore seasonal fruit trees and vegetables.
