The Old Telephone Exchange is a one-bedroom holiday home set within a tranquil and peaceful location with beautiful countryside views.. Ground Floor:

Open plan living space.

Living area: Freeview TV, DVD Player, CD Player, 2 x Sofa Bed (Single)

Dining area.

Kitchen area: Induction Hob, Microwave, Combi Microwave/Oven/Grill, Fridge/Freezer

Bedroom area: Double (4ft 6in) Bed, Patio Doors Leading To Garden

Wet Room: Shower, Heated Towel Rail, Toilet

First Floor:

Bedroom 2: Galleried, Double (4ft 6in) Bed. Electric heating, electricity (pre-paid £1 coin meter), bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Rear garden with sitting out-area, garden furniture and barbecue. Private parking for 1 car. No smoking. Please note: This property does not have Wi-Fi but has good mobile phone signal.. The Old Telephone Exchange is peacefully situated nearby to the woodland at Mamhead, Haldon Forest and is within a 14 minute drive to the nearest beach at Dawlish Warren. This one-bedroom holiday home is the perfect countryside retreat for a small family, couple or solo adventurer wanting to be near the coast but also with plenty of fantastic walks nearby. The open plan kitchen, living area, bedroom and shower room are located on the ground floor. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric induction hob, standard microwave, convection oven microwave, fridge/ freezer and a small table and chairs seating two guests. The living area is perfect for relaxing in after a busy day exploring the local area, so kick back and watch a film on the TV with freeview and a DVD player or listen to the stereo. The bedroom area has a double bed and patio doors leading to the garden and it is accessed from the living area via a curtain which can be pulled across. There are also two sofa beds in the living area. The wet room is fitted with an open shower, heated towel rail, toilet and sink. There is a small mezzanine area in the bedroom which has an additional double mattress on the floor, however it isn’t advisable for guests to use this as the staircase is very steep and the headroom is limited. The garden at the back of the property is the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee in the sun. It has outdoor seating, a charcoal barbecue and spectacular views overlooking the surrounding fields and the valley below. The garden is partially enclosed however small pets may be able to escape through small gaps.

Guests will most likely spot the nearby wildlife which regularly includes deer, hares and more! With very little traffic passing by and no street lighting, the area is an ideal retreat for stargazing. Supermarkets, restaurants, a fish and chip shop, pub and local shops are just three miles away in the local village of Cockwood. Situated in one of South Devon’s most beautiful areas, you will be able to stroll and explore the nearby woodland, which is just across the field, or enjoy some delightful country lane walks direct from the property. An ideal position for touring South Devon, there is a lovely beach at Dawlish Warren less than 5 miles away, as well as the nearby beaches of Teignmouth, Exmouth and Torbay. The wild bird sanctuary and reserve at Dawlish Warren is nearby, as is rugged Dartmoor, a haven for wildlife, wild ponies and more strenuous walks. The cathedral city of Exeter is a short easy drive and offers a range of popular shops and boutiques, restaurants, theatre, cinemas and other leisure facilities. Close by, there are other attractions to suit all tastes as well as numerous National Trust properties and gardens. The 3,500 acre Haldon Hills Forest Park is just 5 minutes drive away and is criss-crossed with walking and cycling trails for all abilities, perfectly completed by brunch or a luscious slice of cake in the café.

You’ll struggle to fit everything into one visit to The Old Telephone Exchange and you will certainly want to stay time and time again!

Beautiful location, views across fields and deer for neighbours. Snug and comfortable perfect for a couple. Single track road can be a bit tricky for dog walking so short leads and an eye out for cars. The Anchor at Cockwood is good for beer and food. Only snag we hit with the cottage - the toaster only toasts on one side.

Lovely place to stay, was a little difficult parking due to some logs being either side of the drive but easily moved out the way.Bed comfy, spacious living area and kitchen. Probably would benefit from a 3 seater sofa instead of 2 seater but there was plenty of seating space with the other 2 chairs although quite low so couldn’t get out of them🤣🤣Kitchen equipped with everything you needed. Clearing out the cupboards would be a bonus as a lot of cleaning equipment there. Overall we would definately stay there again as perfect for our two labradors to wander round the place in the enclosed garden, although no grass but that was fine, gorgeous views, lots of light in the place and very homely.Thankyou🥰

We're a couple with a dog who stayed for three nights at this cottage. The host was friendly and sent instructions ahead of arrival, though they weren't always clear, and the faded handwritten notes dotted around the property were easy to miss. A proper welcome guide would be a worthwhile addition. The location is the real highlight - peaceful, private, and beautifully scenic, with a short drive to the beach. The cottage itself has a charming, quirky character and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and we slept brilliantly each night. However, there were a few issues worth noting. Storage was limited, with cupboards full of the owner's belongings leaving little room for guests. The fridge never reached a proper cold temperature, which was a concern. The cottage had a significant number of ladybirds on every window, our belongings, and ourselves, as well as spiders and other insects. Dust was visible on many surfaces, and the bathroom felt persistently cold, damp, and dingy. The shower towels were also too small. The coin meter - we feel this cost should be factored into the rental price rather than left as an additional expense for guests. Overall, a great location with real potential. With a thorough deep clean and a few practical updates, this could be a fantastic place to stay.
