I'm a 4th generation Yooper, my great grandparents came from Canada and Sweden. My maternal great grand parents owned a flour mill in forestville and there was also a saloon operated downtown Marquette in the 1800s. My great grand mother was a dressmaker. My grandpa was a detailer at Lake Superior carriage works. He liked to whittle and was creative- my mother stayed here with my grandma while her siblings left the UP- my grandma didn't want to live anywhere else, she missed the UP very much when they left to live in Chicago in 1922, so they had to return. My paternal side in 1911 or so after the big fire in Oscoda my dad’s parents moved to Big Bay 30 miles from here, my grandfather worked at the Brunswick Blake Collander company. They shipped out maple from Big Bay for billiards pool cues and bowling pins. In 1926 my grandfather invented a bowling pin. My grandparents played music-the violin and piano for silent film theatre also in Big Bay. My grandfathers both died fairly young and my grandmothers persevered with the love of family and the UP. They loved to cook, bake and play the piano ❤️ I myself am very traditional and like all the above and my creative streak is helping others, outdoor photography, being near the water of Lake Superior, in nature, my salon, and art.
