Josephine House - Four Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 8

Josephine House is a great option for those who are looking for the best of both worlds. A stay there will allow you both to enjoy time in the private surroundings of your home from home and nip down to the gentle buzz of charming Kalami Bay, with its pebbly beach, its bars and its seafront tavernas.

Inside: accommodation at Josephine House is spread over two wings connected by a covered terrace. The main entrance takes one into the communal area. From an entrance hall, off which there is a guest shower room and a utility room, six steps take one down to an open-plan living and dining area with a wall of sofas, a table and a well-equipped modern kitchen. White walls, grey flooring and the natural wood tones of the beamed ceiling set the style for the rest of the house, and three sets of sliding glass doors drink in the sea views and provide access to the terraces.

The glass doors to one end of this luminous space open onto a central, split-level covered terrace looking out over the pool and the sea. Here there is an al fresco dining area and, up a few steps, a lounge area. From here one accesses the first of the four bedrooms in the second wing, a double with en-suite shower room.

Back on the lower level of the covered terrace, a sea-view walkway takes one to the other three bedrooms: first, accessed up a few steps, is a double with en-suite shower room; this is followed by another double with en-suite shower room; last is the main bedroom, a double-twin, also with en-suite shower room.

Accommodation at Josephine is completed by a fitness room with treadmill and multi-gym, situated below the second bedroom and accessed via steps from near the covered terrace.

Outside: al fresco life at Josephine House takes place on the sea-facing side of the house. A glass-fronted balcony walk-way, accessed from the communal areas and three of the bedrooms, runs along the façade of the house. Towards the centre is a deeper area of shady terrace area on two levels, with a dining table below and a lounge area above.

Two flights of steps lead down from the balcony walk-way to the beautiful pool. Decked areas furnished with loungers delimit each end, and a partially submerged shallow section at the infinity edge provides the perfect spot for sunbathing . At one end a wise old olive tree offers shade for a sitting area and partially separates the pool from Josephine House's last surprise, a large covered al fresco dining area served by a "whole-lamb-sized" barbecue, a fridge, a bar, an ice-maker, a prep area, a sink and a bathroom with shower. It is the perfect spot for Epicurean pursuits.

Josephine House features a fantastic infinity pool, offering swimmers stunning views while in the pool. There is a drop off the infinity side so we recommend children are supervised at all times. Please refer to our general safety page if you would like more information about infinity pools.

Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.

The number of steps that must be negotiated to get into and/or around this property might make it unsuitable for people with mobility problems.

Although this property is located within walking distance of some shops and restaurants, we strongly recommend that you hire a car.
Josephine House looks over and is just 10 minutes' walk from the beach, tavernas, shops and watersports facilities (think boat hire, windsurfing and lots more) of lovely, picturesque Kalami. On the southern side of the bay is the famous White House, once home to the writer Lawrence Durrell. It is now a seafront restaurant and bar, where you can sit and imagine James Bond stopping in for a Vodka Martini (parts of For Your Eyes Only were filmed there). Josephine House is also ideally placed for discovering the beaches and fishing villages northeast of Corfu, including those of Agios Stefanos, Avlaki, Barbati and Acharavi. For a spot of nightlife, bustling Kassiopi is just a 15-minute drive away. Heading south, charming Corfu Town with its fortifications and historic labyrinth of streets is about 45 minutes' drive and well worth a visit. If you're travelling with kids, there are plenty of stimulating activities and attractions for children within easy reach.
