I absolutely love the vines that cover much of the house--though they require a great deal of care and trimming, in our weather. And I love the long view from the front door, through the lanai, into the cool greenery of the backyard. The magnolia tree was a gift in 2003 from my best friend, and it now towers over everything and blooms the sweetest-smelling, lemony flowers. The little banana grove fascinated me (growing up in Kentucky, where the only bananas come from Kroger's). As soon as I could, I had a glass and screen lanai added to the back, and I still listen to the rain while sitting back there.
My careers took me to Canada, Minnesota, and back to Kentucky for some years, but after I became a harpist and a therapist, I knew I wanted to return to St. Augustine. I had worked in hospice at Mayo, and with people who had developmental disabilities and psychiatric diagnoses, so I know that daily life is no picnic for many of us. I want my home to be an oasis for people who need respite, who want to be delighted by the little geckos and tropical plants... get restored and refreshed by the ocean breezes and the comforting beauty of this cozy home. I love staying here part-time, in between visits from guests. I look forward to hearing from guests who feel happy and rested in these rooms. Thank you for reading about The Vine-Covered Oasis, and I hope you will be a guest here soon!
