Location is the most redeeming quality

The property manager was more than helpful.
The vacation rental was very clean.
I was very happy with the location.
I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

We were absolutely thrilled to be able to get a cottage close to the beach and cone block where our friends were staying so we could visit. Location was everything for us. Don’t get me wrong, I live for old houses and have worked in historic preservation for a long time. I do not expect things to be perfect with older architecture rentals but some details (common sense details) cannot be overlooked. The vent cover on the microwave was missing. the baseboards and one of the bathrooms were rotting. You could see I light underneath the front door where air-conditioning was escaping. The air return duct in the hallway was filthy, covered in rust, dust and mildew. The corner queen bed was very uncomfortable and VERY noisy. There were at least 12 hooks in one bathroom for towels and clothes but very few in the second bath and none in the bedrooms. The showers showed of aged mildew. Why did I not call as soon as I noticed? Because once I’m on vacation I really don’t want to be bothered with having to clean up what was supposed to already have been done. Most of these things would have required serious attention and we only wanted to be able to enjoy the space privately without service crews coming in. Is it up to the rental agency or the owners to provide some sort of quality integrity of the space that you are staying in? I don’t know but I would like to think that these are some things that would stand out and leave a blemish on the agency, the owner and the location. Of course I can go stay in a hotel but I would prefer a house. But I would also prefer the small details like the nasty air return duct be on anyone’s radar for repair. This location is priceless and all of the details that I mentioned above could so easily be taken care of but, like many owners and agencies it’s not about presenting well as much as it is about cashing in. I would encourage the owners and the agency to attend to so many small details that
