Christmas visit with son and family in San Rafael

This is the second time we've stayed at this lovely place, and we couldn't have been happier. There are amenities galore, the bed is comfortable, and it's quiet, peaceful, and very close to both our son's home and Andy's Market(!). We would both recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet, peaceful, charming place to stay for a night or a week (or longer).

Stay on the Bay

The unit was perfect for our short stay. Very clean, very well-appointed for a small kitchen. Had everything we needed The bed is comfortable and the linens nice. Great location for San Rafael and hoping one the bridge into city. We will come back when we need to stay in the Bay.

Hostess is very nice. Welcomed us to her place upon arrival but was definitely not overbearing. We were in town for a music event at McNears Beach which was relatively close. Nice upscale neighborhood.

Wonderful, peaceful cottage

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The kitchen - and actually the entire unit - was fully stocked with every amenity, it was quiet and peaceful, and just lovely in every way.

No security or privacy

The owner, who lives upstairs, entered our rental while we were away without calling us or asking permission. She then unplugged a radiant heater set on a low setting. Our room was freezing when we got back. When we called the owner about this intrusion, she apologized. But there is no privacy in the rental in any case. The small sitting room has a front window with no window covering. So anyone can look in and see everything going on in the sitting room and kitchen. If the bedroom door is open, anyone can look in through the same window. Also, the unit is very dated, and I had to wipe off food debris from the silverware drawer when we arrived. We would not recommend this property. Also, be ready to be barked and growled at by the resident dog. It is in a very good location—that is about the only good thing we can say about it.

Lovely, Warm House

Elise was a wonderful host who met us right away and made sure we had keys and all the supplies we needed. She invited us to sit in the beautiful garden and made suggestions of places to visit and to shop, including Andy’s Market which was a great grocery store within walking distance. The house was very inviting with many decorative touches that made me smile every time I came home. The house was equipped with absolutely everything we needed to enjoy our stay, including a marvelous bed. We stayed two and a half weeks and would have stayed longer if we were able to do that. We can highly recommend the Bayside property.

Cozy Hideaway

Easy check in process in a quiet relaxing neighborhood. Just a short drive or walk to the best market around, Andy's Market for any necessary supplies or prepared food. My daughter loved the pizza. I'd love to come back for another visit, we loved it. Thanks for thinking of all the supplies we could have ever needed. Loved it!!

Wonderful retreat

We stayed for a little over two weeks to accommodate two high school graduations. The property was wonderful, and a nice neighborhood. The owner was very accommodating and the unit has everything you need. Five stars for both the property and the owner.

Very cozy!

This was a very cute, little cozy spot close to a lot of ocean beaches and fun cities. We stayed thanksgiving weekend and had a pleasant stay. We felt very safe in the neighborhood. This is very much an apartment in the sense that your neighbors can be heard, if that’s something you’re concerned about. We were not and it was still very private, so this was a delightful experience. Thanks to the hosts for providing such an excellent home away from home.

We enjoyed our stay in the cozy apartment on the bay. the were no surprises, we got everything we were expecting, and the neighborhood is very beautiful. Definitely drive up the road to see some amazing views of the north bay.

Nice, cozy and quiet place.

This was a perfect place for the two of us. It is located in the lower level of the property owner's house. It is a nice, quiet place and very cozy. Communication with Elise was very easy and she was very friendly. She does have a young dog, but that was never an issue. We would stay there again if given the opportunity.

Hidden Gem

Elise and Paul were wonderful hosts and the reviews are accurate. I had to come to San Rafael to attend a memorial and almost booked a hotel. So glad I chose to stay at their place. Far better than a hotel. Clean, comfortable and the garden is very special. I was able to take a break from it all and sit outside to reflect. Andy's Market is a short walk where I was able to get breakfast. Loved their place.

Comfortable lodging close to Marin outdoor adventures

Just like a home away from home with everything you would want to have to relax after a busy day out enjoying the many outdoor activities available in Marin. We enjoyed two great days of hiking at Mt Tamalpais. Andy's Market is nearby and has an exceptional deli where we picked up the best deli sandwiches to take on our hikes! The Kitchen Table restaurant in downtown San Rafael was also great!

Convenient charmer in San Rafael

This is a one bedroom downstairs unit very close to central San Rafael. The unit was spotless, with everything you would need for a nice stay. It is near shopping and walking trails. There is a nice garden and off street parking. Elise and Paul were very helpful. We would and will stay there again.

The perfect getaway spot

What a magical , cozy place to visit beautiful California! Close to everything, yet outside the city and so convenient for nature lovers who like to hike, walk on the beach and be amazed by the glorious redwoods ! Elise & Paul are charming hosts. Their place is well equipped ~ great Wi-Fi, wonderful bed and the garden is a definite plus. Andy’s market within walking distance is a delight. I can’t say enough about our weeklong stay and we hope to return !!!

We came up to Marin County in 1991 and fell in love with its beauty. Both of us have been in the film and television industry and where Paul decided to retire, Elise continued to travel to Los Angeles and work on different film and television projects as a studio teacher. She has worked on some well known projects such as Full House, and many movies as well. We both are semi retired now and love to travel as well as welcome fellow travelers to our lovely area .
Elise is a teacher in the film industry for kids that work and cannot attend their regular school and Paul was an assistant director. He is now a writer and has written a novel called Night Fear. It can be found on Amazon!
He is writing his second novel which is a sequel to Night Fear. There are 2 more on the horizon.
Our alma maters our UCLA and Cal Berkeley!

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

This neighborhood where our rental exists is truly unique. It is on the Bay side of a quaint area called 'Chicken Point' - perhaps because there might have been people raising chickens - which is a common happening here!- It is not far from central San Rafael and yet it feels rural enough to enjoy walks up in the hills and around the Bay.
The architecture of our surrounding area is a mix of different styles. No cookie cutter look here. It reminds me of Topanga Canyon in Los Angeles, an area where I grew up and a mix of East Coast Maine. People here are very supportive and helpful and we find that this did not exist in larger towns and cities.
If you enjoy birdwatching , this is a great area for shore bird watching. The nearby marina has a lovely path that jutes out from the bay where you can enjoy a leisurely walk and see all kinds of marine wild life.
There is also Andy's Market in the Loch Lomand Marina which is spectacular for take out meals and prepackaged meals ready for the microwave. Also, they have a great selection of wines. You can literally walk to it from our rental.
Instead of taking a right turn to get to Anday's and the Marina, you can go left and stroll along the San Pablo Bay. It eventually will take you to Mc Nears Beach and if you have more energy you can reach China Camp - a historical fishing village.

この宿泊施設の特徴

The style of our rental is a bit of New England. We have temperate weather due to the proximity to the Bay and since we are near a little beach, it is easy to put out a kayak or stand up paddle board.
Also our neighbors are what makes the area wonderful - everyone loves where we live!!
We are also walking distance from a new market and development with flat surface walks around the point of our bay. We have views of the bay as well as Mount Tamalpais - a favorite hiking spot. The area is also quite quiet for restful getaways.
