Rod and Debi grew up in San Francisco, and moved to the Peninsula in 1972 where we built our home and raised our two children. In 2010 we moved to the Foothills east of Sacramento and are enjoying a new life there. As a family we spent our summers in Maui and the Big Island but always found ourselves gravitating back to Maui. Our first year at Ka'anapali Royal was in 1983 when our son was three and we have been enjoying the Royal ever since so that must say something. we have enjoyed bringing our kids, then with their spouses and now our five granddaughters and one grandson. The grandkids in 2024 range in age from 4 years old to 19.
We have traveled throughout Europe several times, spent time in New Zealand twice but find relaxing in Maui just as rewarding. Rod likes to play golf, enjoys beach time and seeing the many friends that he has made over the years. Our trips are not all playtime as Rod always has things to take care of after a busy summer of guests.
In 2019 Debi and I went on a trip that started in Iceland, then off to England and then down to South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. During out trip our grandson was born and Debi got to babysit him when he was 7 days old. Four days after we returned from Africa, Debi had a pre-planned MRI for neck pain. She had a stroke during the test and past away two days later with the test results as " arthritis in the neck". She had no chance of any quality of life recovery. Rod started traveling again in 2022 with no plans to stop. He has been on two cruises since 2022, and been to Kenya and Tanzania.
Our area code, in Hawaii, is 808 but it's also the date of the almost complete destruction of Lahaina in 2023. The town is mostly destroyed but our area and north of us remain the same and is awaiting your arrival.
I hope getting to know us just a bit will make the decision to trust me with your Maui accommodations an easier choice. Our reviews will confirm it as well.
Mahalo,
Rod Conklin
