Holliday Villa - Casa do Sobreiro

Only 20 minutes from the city of Oporto, " Casa do Sobreiro" was recently renovated and managed to keep the original structure and architecture, which is typical of the Douro region.

An old mill for the production of olive oil was kept intact and is certainly an interesting feature of the Casa do Sobreiro.

In the surrounding area, the focus is on the beache and a small marina with restaurants where you can enjoy the best Portuguese gastronomy.
You can also explore the Douro river cruises.

Beautiful large property in a gorgeous setting. The host was friendly and helpful, he was there late at night to check us in and help us find it in the dark! The views are stunning and the house is really spacious and the pool is fabulous. We had a wonderful stay at this property thank you!

Great area to rest and relax. Beautiful scenery. The house is very large. Great kitchen. Mostly all positive. If I had to be picky, I would say the water is not drinkable, so you need to buy bottled water. Also, the upstairs bathroom had a funny smell, expected in with older homes. We had a great stay.

We had a wonderful recent stay at Casa do Sobreiro. The pictures are a great representation but nothing like being there in person. We had 5 adults in our party and had lots of space. The kitchen is very large and was well stock with everything you need. All the bathrooms are spacious and nice. The host are wonderful. They were very responsive and knowledgeable with all our questions and any request. We will love to come back again.

Never judge a book by its cover! What looks like a fabulous Villa on the outside belies the truth!Total misrepresentation of the property facilitated by the hosts (Not Vrbo). The Villa, is let down badly by lack of tlc over the years. Unsafe electrics, leaking Ceilings, inadequate showers, the beds are notbing more than a sheet of chipboard over skats with orthopeadic mattresses. The kitchen is large but not functional. Thw Iven in the pictures is nit there. Instead, there is an ivwn with no cooking shelves and another oven with just one. Unsafe electrics, particularly in the Kitchen, that have been identified in a previous review ir two, but not sorted. lnsecure property as one of the entry doors is broken and cannot be locked. Again this is an historical issue flagged a previous review ir two.The advert suggests it has grounds leading down to the Duoro river. The land listed as "Property Grounds" are nowhere to be seen. The poil looks much larger in the pictures than it actually is!NB its not a bad location, but a car is advised

We regret that this guest's stay did not meet their expectations. However, we feel it is essential to clarify that several of the statements made do not correspond to the verified facts. From the beginning, we maintained a helpful and cooperative attitude, even providing additional support to the group, who did not have their own vehicle. The issue reported in the bathroom was promptly addressed and fully resolved on the very same day. Likewise, the kitchen is fully equipped with all the amenities and appliances listed in the advertisement. It is also relevant to note that, during the stay, the guest himself acknowledged some of his earlier remarks and offered an apology, explaining that it was difficult to keep six people satisfied. This circumstance, along with all other communications during the stay, is thoroughly documented. More importantly, these concerns were not raised only after the review was published. During the stay, we had already reported our concerns to Vrbo regarding the situation and the pattern of complaints presented by the guest, providing photographs, conversation records, and other supporting documentation. We naturally respect every guest's right to express their opinion. However, we consider it unfair for a negative experience to be presented as the result of structural issues or a lack of conditions that do not reflect the reality of the property, which can be disproven by the existing documentation and the review history of other guests.

Can’t beat the view

We felt very lucky to have found your lovely farmhouse. The old olive press was very interesting. The house was huge, comfortable, the hosts were very welcoming and the location was perfect for us. It was close enough to Porto, Pinhao, Guimarães, and on a beautiful bend of the Douro River. Thank you so much!

Amazing house, view and location

The house was beautiful and the location perfect. We enjoyed being in the "country" and out of Porto central. The town of Melres is quaint, folks are very nice, and the view of the Douro River lovely. Recommend this house for couples, families and groups. Loved our experience.

We had a lovely stay in this huge house . Stunning views and in a good position for the village and a few restaurants. Well kitted out huge kitchen . The family were very nice and saw us into the house and were quick to reply to any requests for help . However the garden furniture needs updating as mentioned in previous reviews as do some of the beds . Two of the doubles were uncomfortably hard.

Amazing location

The house is in the most stunning location - better than the photos! It’s extremely spacious and pretty well equipped. It’s not the most modern and there are a few elements that could be updated, but that’s reflected in the price that you pay. The owner was really helpful and communicative, and shared suggestions for the local area. Would recommend!

We loved our stay overlooking the Douro River. What a splendid view; great for early morning coffee or late afternoon wine. It was a quick trip into Porto to enjoy the sites. We approached Porto from the Gaia side. Kitchen is good for making a few meals. This place did not disappoint! Thank you António and Diego.

Gorgeous home with views over river Douro :)

Had a lovey stay in this beautiful villa which had so much space and the most amazing views over the river. Pictures on site do not do home justice. Able to drive into Porto easily and was also advised that a bus runs hourly from bottom of road to Porto. Came back feeling refreshed and relaxed. Thanks for 'sharing' this home Luis!

Good stay

Host was very attentive and communicative. Place is huge and has great views. Loved sitting out in the evening watching the sun go down. Close to small village (Melres) with couple of shops and a supermarket and a beach on the river. Can get a bus (#9) from just up the road straight into Porto - costs 3 euros each way. Uber only 30 euros from airport so case to be made for avoiding the scam of car hire. We had a great stay and would visit again, thanks Diogo.

Lovely Stay in a Beautiful Villa

We were very delayed for our arrival, but the family very kindly waited to show us around the villa. Beautiful location looking over the river. However, there is a bit of road noise which is mostly noticeable early morning. There are a couple of bars/ restaurants a few minutes drive or 15-20 minutes walk with good prices. Lots of walks through the hills. Kitchen has plenty of equipment. Nice bedrooms and bathrooms. Overall a lovely villa in a beautiful location.

Location and views were fantastic as described. The house is very spacious with lots of excellent vantage points. Only a few items not up to par. En-suite bathroom light was not functioning and adequate number of cushions for lounge seating around pool is needed. Pool area could use a new umbrella. Main floor bedroom mattress is very hard. Communication with host prior to and during visit was very good.

Amazing property

As others have said, the photographs do not do this wonderful property justice. This is a very large house on large very private grounds. The views from the pool area and the house over the river Douro are spectacular and really do take your breath away. Luis is a fantastic host, who was there to meet us on check in with his lovely family. He gave us a tour of the house and explained everything. We had an issue with air con while there which was quickly dealt with and communication throughout our stay was very good, always on hand to answer questions and help with local information. The house itself is very well equipped and spacious. We had a fantastic time and would love to return sometime.

Spacious villa with amazing view

Luis was very helpful meeting us at the villa and giving us some local tips. Stunning view - we never tired of looking over the river. Property is much more spacious than it appears in the photos & very comfortable. A minor point but the outdoor furniture could do with a refresh, The house was clean and well cared for. It was great to have such a well equipped large kitchen with 2 ovens, would be perfect for a large group, Kids loved the pool so we spent most of the time at the villa & really enjoyed the outdoor space & drinks on the upper balcony. It’s not a particularly touristy area but we liked that, plus we had combined with a few days in nearby Porto first so were ready to relax. We did go to a local restaurant a couple of times and hired a big paddleboard at the river beach, Luis recommended a vineyard to us but we didn’t manage to visit, although we tried the wine which was lovely! Overall a great stay for a very reasonable price.
