The perfect historical & very homely two-bedroom base to explore the Goldfields - whether it's festivals, gigs or eateries in nearby Castlemaine, or the Harcourt Bushland Reserve directly behind with easy access under the trainline.
Both beds are queen. There are ceiling fans, portable heaters and an oven with hotplates. There is a dining/living room with split-system and a large outdoor patio.
*You are looking at part of the house (left side of front pic) - privately partitioned, with own entrance. You can rent the entire house - 3 bed, two bath - by viewing our profile.

Escape from Airport West

Lots of invasive noise from very close main road. No internet. Dumb television. Good library . Excellent aircon. No shade in which to park vehicle. A step back into the 1960s.

Hi David There is internet. If you called I would have popped over and helped you sort it. Likewise with the TV - not sure what the issue there was. The property is nearly 50 metres from the road and we've never had an issue with the noise. But yes the address states Midland 'Highway'. Not much we can do about that. We like to think the property is priced accordingly and go out of our way to sort any issues while our guests are here. Thank you for you feedback, Paul

Barkers Creek is home to the Dja Dja Wurrung people. It was the first place that gold was discovered in the Mount Alexander Shire. An extension of Castlemaine, today it has roughly 450 residents. However, back in the Goldrush, it had around 10,000 people residing here as well as 16 pubs. If you head up the nearby Specimen Gully Road you can view the remnants of some of the original abodes.

Our historical farmhouse was one of the childhood homes of Albert Facey, the author of the million-selling Australian classic A Fortunate Life.
Born in 1894 and first sent to work at the age of eight, Facey lived the rough frontier life of a labourer and farmer and jackaroo, becoming lost and then rescued by Indigenous trackers, then gaining a hard-won literacy, surviving Gallipoli, raising a family through the Depression, losing a son in the Second World War, and meeting his beloved Evelyn with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
Despite enduring unimaginable hardships, Facey always saw his life as a fortunate one.
A true classic of Australian literature, Facey’s simply penned story offers a unique window onto the history of Australian life through the greater part of the twentieth century – the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man.
