Our house is in Hawea Flat, 15 km from Wanaka, on a 4000m² section. Built for the sun, it has picture windows to the north over three levels, with views of native planting and the mountains. The house is double-glazed, with thermal drapes in the lounge and bedrooms.
There are three bedrooms: two with queen beds and one with two singles (single + trundle bed).
On the entrance level, there is the kitchen, a separate toilet and a laundry. The laundry has a washing machine, large fridge/freezer (with ice and cold water) and a soda stream machine.
The kitchen offers a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher and a large island bench for socialising with the cook(s). Appliances: coffee grinder, plunger, toaster, electric jug, food processor, blender, electric mixer, bread maker, waffle maker, toastie maker, smoothie maker, soda stream. The dining table is also here, with large doors opening to the deck.
This large, north-facing deck has a bbq, outdoor furniture, sound system and a spa pool with stunning mountain views. The bbq has a pizza box for making delicious pizzas. With no streetlights, the spa offers a warm place for viewing the stars even on a cold, winter night. Tuis and bellbirds habitually visit the bird feeder on the deck.
The lounge is separate, with a flat-screen smart tv, plenty of comfortable seating and a log-burner for warmth and ambience. On windy days, a courtyard off the lounge offers a sheltered place for drinks in the sun, or an evening fire in the pot-belly stove. Bedroom two is on this level off a book-filled study adjacent to the lounge.
Upstairs, there are the other two bedrooms and the bathroom. The bathroom has a shower, basin & toilet. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed and opens on to a glass fronted balcony. Bedroom 3 has a single bed, plus another single trundle bed.
The section has plenty of room for parking, including boats. There are pet goats on the property - lovely to watch from the house and always appreciative of bread and vege treats!
Pantry basics such as tea, sugar, salt, flour, spices may be used (within reason). If you use a lot of something, please replace it. Fresh herbs are growing just outside the door. There is Starlink wifi so speed and capacity are not an issue.
This is our home so it is not an immaculate show-home or sterile rental. It's a lovely space that we enjoy and would love others to be able to enjoy too as we travel this year.
It is ideally located for Warbirds over Wānaka at Easter 2026. It's a 10-minute drive to the entrance gates on the Luggate/Cromwell side. This means you can do a drop-off/pick-up without getting caught up in the traffic back into Wānaka itself. Many of the practices or approaches are over the property so you can see planes without leaving the comfort of the deck.
The Hāwea Wave is less than a ten-minute drive away for surfing and kayaking (as the flow allows). The walking/biking tracks along the Clutha and Hāwea Rivers are a short drive or bike ride away. It takes about 40-45 minutes to bike into Wānaka.
