I received an email a couple hours after check in from the owner saying that she had been informed by previous tenants that there were mice in the apartment and that the HOA would not be able to come and set traps until we were gone because they couldn’t do it with people in the house and that we should keep our food in place where mice couldn’t get it. Over the next couple days, I found mouse poop under the couches, in the basket that contained the kitchen cloths, and under the sink. I was also woken up around 3am one night while I was sleeping in the living room because the mice were under the sink. I relayed this to her in an email and she said she could have the cleaning service come but they wouldn’t be able to be there until Wednesday because they were out of town. Tuesday evening while my husband and I were watching a movie, we saw a mouse run across the floor. Luckily he found a mouse trap that had already been in the closet (must have been used for a previous time) and that night he caught two medium sized mice under the sink. I informed the owner and she said the upstairs condo had also caught two mice and she offered to buy us a pizza. I did not respond because I did not feel like buying us a pizza was a sufficient response for catching mice in her condo. We did not have any more issues with mice for the rest of the trip. She offered to give a small refund. I said I would appreciate it. She only ended up giving $75. I called VRBO on our way home and they said that having mice in a unit was a health and safety violation and if we had called them earlier they could have found us a different spot (I regret not having thought of this option, I assumed I would have to find somewhere last minute). They were surprised that she would have allowed us to stay there knowing that there were mice when I was 35 weeks pregnant with two young kids. Unfortunately they said the refund was up to the owner as the funds were already given to her. I reached out and explained my experience, and I asked for a 40% refund, based on the amount of days we dealt with the mice (sat, sun, mon, tues). She said she would be willing to give me one night refunded. I said I would like at least two. She said no. And so I’m writing this review to share my experience with the owner. Everything is fine as long as you don’t have any issues otherwise you are on your own.
