Welcome to the Bass Capital of the World! On this private "Slice of Paradise" you can enjoy beautiful natural scenery, and observe abundant wildlife, including deer, turkey, squirrels, rabbits, alligators, cranes, bald eagles, hawks, owls, and myriad other birds. Bring your boat and keep at the dock. (Boat ramps nearby to launch your boat.) In addition to your own private bungalow, there are several venues on the private 2+acre property for your use: TV gazebo, fire pit, gas BBQ grill, screened room on dock, 150' open dock on the St. John's River with beautiful sunrise and sunset views. Plenty of room for parking a boat, RV, trailer. No traffic, very private property (separate owner's cabin on property).

A couple of important notes:
This is a very quiet location and NOT a party house.
Due to owner's allergies, and to avoid disturbing bountiful indigenous wildlife, we do not allow pets of any kind. No hunting. The bungalow and property are not baby-proofed. For guest safety, several surveillance cameras discretely monitor exterior premises.

More about our Location:
Overall, the tranquil, spring-fed St. John's River flows from the South to North into the Atlantic Ocean (Jacksonville). Our peaceful property is located on a largely undeveloped portion of the St. John's River where the River flows East to West, affording beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing from our 150' private dock. Nestled between Lake George (second largest lake in Florida) and Little Lake George (and almost surrounded by the Ocala National Forest, the Welaka State Forest, and the Welaka National Fish Hatchery), our "Slice of Paradise" features excellent opportunities for observing wildlife and fishing for bass, trout, catfish, crappie, brim, shrimp, crabs and more!

About a 5 minute boat ride from our dock to the Southeast is Renegades on the River Marina & RV Campground, with a great restaurant, Tiki bar with live music, boat ramp, gas and supplies.

About a 5 minute boat ride from our dock to the Northwest is the inlet of the uniquely scenic, wholly-undeveloped Ocklawaha River, which teems with wildlife.

About a 5 minute drive South from our property is The Oaks Golf Course, an 18-hole golf course for all skill levels (playing 6,051 yards), with clubhouse restaurant, golf cart and equipment rentals. Friendly, open to public, great for a fun, relaxing round!

About a 5 minute drive North thru the Welaka State Forest is the charming Town of Welaka, with a couple of great restaurant and music venues (Shrimp-R-Us, Long's Log Cabin) you will want to check out !

Quiet Getaway

We love staying here. It’s a beautiful and quiet place to sit on the dock, look out over the water and go fishing. We enjoyed seeing the deer and wild turkeys too!

Definitely an experience that you couldn’t get at any hotel. Waking to the fawns and deer in front of the windows. The area has some awesome trails and natural springs. Great eateries as well as grocery store . The cabin is well stocked with everything you need and clean. It’s not fancy but ultimately comfortable. Loved the dock and option to fish. Very nice landlord , stopped by to say hello. Would like to stay again and longer.

A slice of paradise. Beautiful secluded spot on the St Johns River. Everything is perfect for boating and photography. Deer and turkeys roam the yard. Bald eagles, osprey anhinga are easy to photograph from the dock. Hal and Theresa are such wonderful hosts. Will definitely be back next year nice and frie

Wonderful River House

This house is adorable! It was very clean and well stocked with essentials. The property is a dream! The river view is beautiful! We enjoyed watching the local wildlife pass through the yard.

Always beautiful and always something new to explore.

We love the little home on the river. It was year number 4 in the bungalow and it feels like home when we are there. We never run out of places to explore in the area with springs and many state parks, Ocala National Forest just across the river, many small towns with restaurants and shops. The wildlife is amazing. Watching the sunset over the river is still our favorite activity.The hosts are the best! They are so thoughtful and always responsive. We hope to be back for year 5!

St. Johns River Retreat

Spot on for fishing the St. Johns River. The area is rural and beautiful, abundant with wild game: deer, turkey, and sand hill cranes. The cottage was clean and very comfortable. The hosts Hal and Theresa were kind, considerate, and helpful. I am going back in April for the fishing and the excellent restaurants

Wonderful cottage on the St. John's River in Florida

Very private, clean cottage on beautiful property. Amenities were exceptional! Private dock for our boat. Owners Hal and Theresa were on the property for a couple days at their bungalo and were wonderful, friendly and kind hosts. Amazing sunsets! Had a fantastic time. A++

Perfect!

Truly a blessing to find this gem. Nestled among the gorgeous cypress trees along the river, we enjoyed every minute of our getaway. Hal and Theresa were excellent hosts, and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. We now have a lifelong memory and some new friends.

A photographers dream

This property on the St Johns River is definitely the finest property to stay. This was our second stay in February at the bungalow. Theresa and Hal provide us with a secluded retreat that is fully furnished and very comfortable. We spent most of our time relaxing on the dock. Photographers dream spot

We fell in love with the place when we saw the advertisement on VRBO. We fell in love again when we arrived. This slice of paradise is everything we could hope for. Beautiful quiet and comfortable to stay at. Theresa and Hal were so helpful with getting us settled in and help quickly if we needed anything. As an amateur wildlife, raptor, and bird photographer it was a dream destination.. We decided on our first day of our stay that we definitely would return. Thank you for an enjoyable visit

Paradise indeed!

Theresa and Hal are the best hosts. They give great advice about places to see, eat and shop in the area. They are always so responsive to anything we need or any questions we have. The bungalow is well stocked with kitchen supplies, linens and towels, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The setting on the river is so peaceful and the perfect place view a variety of wildlife, extraordinary sunsets and occasionally a rocket launch from 60 miles away. It truly is a slice of paradise on earth and we hope to return. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place and for all you do to make our vacation enjoyable and comfortable.

Cozy getaway with all you need

Easy to get to, away from the busy-ness of city life. Bungalow is small, but seems larger due to the sunroom, TV gazebo, dock area, screened-in dock resting spot, and "she shed" with spa-like experience. Owners have provided everything that you need to enjoy yourselves. Suggest no more than 2 people visit, due to the small studio bathroom area. We stayed for 2 weeks, and will definitely book again if we plan to be in the area. Loved the many types of birds, the deer, turkeys, and the friendly anoles. Owners made us feel very welcome, and provided some nice amenities that other places haven't. Kudos!

Little slice of paradise!

I borrowed the title from the Hal and Theresa’s welcoming note. After our first sunset on the dock we concur! There is much to explore in the area with trails and forest and local restaurants and watering holes. Our favorite activity during our 9 days was relaxing on the dock, watching the wildlife and enjoying the ever changing view of the river. The rental is spotlessly clean and had everything we needed! Hal and Theresa are amazing hosts and such nice people! They provided great information about the area activities and restaurants and made us feel very comfortable. Thank you Hal and Theresa for sharing your slice of paradise❤️We plan to return!

Two Weeks in Paradise

This was our second January visit to Hal and Theresa's slice of paradise on the St. Johns River. They are the most wonderful hosts. The location is absolutely beautiful and so relaxing. There is much to see and do if you choose but our favorite activity is watching the river and wildlife from the dock. The rental is super clean and stocked with everything you need. We cooked a few crock pot meals and used the stove top and toaster/countertop oven. There are many little restaurants and bars in the area to get a bite too. Hal and Theresa always have excellent recommendations and they quickly respond to any questions and any issues. We hope to come back next year!

Beautiful property

Theresa and Hal are very nice people and it was a pleasure staying there on their property. The accommodations and items included were more than we expected. The unit was super clean and all the numerous items (free of charge) they included were bagged and tagged. The attention to detail Theresa gives to everything in the unit gives you a great welcoming feeling as soon as you walk in. I'm very hot natured person and it was in the 90's but Hal told me to turn the air to where I was comfortable, I left it on the lowest setting possible and our unit was ice cold everyday when we would come home in the evenings he happily accommodated every request I had they truly made us feel a home and we will definitely be back.

Our FL Happy Place

This is the second time we’ve stayed here and we love it! We’re close to our friends and the view from the dock is breathtaking. The hosts are wonderful to work with and kept us up to date after the hurricane passed through. I’d highly recommend it.
