Not What I Expected
My husband, teenage son and his best friend, along with myself were very excited for a weekend getaway to Hot Springs. Initially communication with the owner was very good. When we arrived, we were very unhappy about the neighborhood and area around the rental. There was trash piled up outside the building. The surrounding buildings were very run down and some had boarded up windows. There may be parking behind the building but it wouldn’t be easy to get to the front door. There are back doors but we were not sure which would lead to the rental and key pad is in the front. As we entered the building, an old musty smell was very strong. Once inside the rental this smell wasn’t as strong. The inside of the rental has been beautifully remodeled and definitely doesn’t match the exterior. My only issue with the inside was the window units in every room. While they were doing a good job of keeping the rental cool, they are not good for allergy sufferers, which my son and I are. We also had our small dog with us, which would require frequent trips outside. Ultimately we decided not to stay in the unit due to the following reasons: (1) feeling unsafe in the area (2) not feeling safe walking to the downtown area from the unit (3) window units.
I contacted the owner and let him know we didn’t stay and why. While a refund would’ve been nice, it was not expected or requested. However, I received zero comment from the owner. So, if you are looking to rent this place, be aware that it’s location is very sketchy and not as walkable to downtown as described.
