Enjoy outdoor living? Well than start a walk or hike right out your front door! Nevada County is famous for outdoor recreation. Ask the friendly locals to point you in the direction of THEIR favorite walking trail, bike path or watering hole. Go in search of the world famous Yuba & American Rivers. Not to miss.

During your visit, don't miss the opportunity to visit historic sites in Grass Valley and Nevada City; both just minutes away. You'll be sure to bring home a special purchase and wonderful memories. A lovely place to stay!

This is a beautiful home. The builders put more window than wall wherever possible and there are lovely views in all directions. Looking through the trees at the valley below from the deck was especially nice. Lot's of privacy and space with a tall fence with only visible neighbor. House was well stocked- did all our meals there and found everything we needed. Seems like they've added things to the kitchen since earlier reviews. Spotlessly clean. Host replied quickly when I had trouble following the clear instructions. Only quirk was that the lighting in the two smaller bedrooms was extremely dim. I was tempted to go buy some modern LED bulbs. We were at a very hot time and the downstairs bedroom was a bit warm, but not bad. AC was definitely able to get the rest of the house colder than you'd want it to be. Lot's of beautiful sitting areas outside and carefully tended yard, hot tub and above ground pool. The decorations were lovely inside and out. We did end up adding toilet paper. Not sure if they were just trying to stock a starter amount, if we just didn't find the spare, or we just had a different idea of toilet paper for five adults. But it wasn't a big deal to pick up at the store. All and all, a beautiful place to visit and a destination in and of itself.

Peaceful Getaway

The house was everything we were looking for. The owner, Stephen, was responsive and helpful. We were treated to a wonderful gift basket and seasonal above ground pool. We enjoyed the wild turkey family and deer walking through the yard. the yard.

Beautiful cabin

This was perfect for our needs, a secluded cabin large enough for the extended family to come together. The kitchen could have been better supplied for cooking and the hot tub was not clean enough to use, but we otherwise found it a great stay.

Awesome!!

The property is great and the views are beautiful off the back decks. Great property for dog owners to throw a ball and fetch with their favorite pooch. The Owner, Steven, is wonderful to work with and very flexible. The house provided us with everything we needed including lawn games and beach towels. We cannot wait to return! Oh, and super close to everything especially the golf course!

Nice place!

Highly recommended for a memorable vacation experience! "Shady Pines" in Grass Valley is a hidden gem with stunning Pine Forest views. The house is tastefully appointed, providing all the comforts of home. The spacious deck and fenced-in yard are perfect for dog owners, offering plenty of room to enjoy. Despite having a neighbor next door, the fully fenced area ensures privacy. There are plenty of activities to explore in Grass Valley. Just remember to bring mosquito repellent. Overall it was a great place.

Wonderful stay in the pines!

The description is perfect as well as the back patio looking out through the pines! Building our own fire and enjoying a rainstorm in the house was wonderful to enjoy the forest! Thank you!

Perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle

Very peaceful home to relax and unwind. Bring your own pots/pans if you plan on cooking a big meal and make sure the propane tank is filled before you plan your meals. Overall, a great place to stay and watch the evening bats and morning deer.

Lovely setting just a few minutes from town

Nice location and unique and attractive home. Flexible and accommodating host. Comfortable beds. Dog friendly huge back deck and fully fenced in yard. Big garage available for storing car or gear. Feels deep in the country, yet large grocery stores (SPD, Raleys) are just 10 minutes away. Kitchen could use a few more pots and pans, bowls, a colander, etc. beyond the selection of basics that are there. Fast electric stove and efficient hood fan/light. Looks like work to upgrade other things is in process (small microwave on counter works fine while brand-new bigger built-in one doesn't appear to be connected yet). Big "smart" TV's in multiple rooms (you log in with your own Netflix acct for instance). Could use a bit more lighting in the evenings though the huge windows make it great in the day. We used the A/C unit on the living room wall (which did the trick downstairs but not so much for the upstairs bedrooms), but might have missed out on the whole house heat pump (didn't try to turn it on) because we didn't notice the control for that until the last day.

Beautiful and serene

Shady Pines had everything you could need, it was in such a beautiful setting and we didn't want to leave. The deck was so relaxing, and the yard is just so pretty. The jacuzzi was ahhhh-mazing!!! Plenty of space for the whole family to gather or to relax separately (which is nice after a long road trip together). Steven was friendly and communcative. Would definitely return!

Family rental for our daughter's wedding at Northstar house.

Very nice house with lots of room. Loved the big deck. It was a very quiet location. Wished we had a working refrigerator in the kitchen but there was one in the garage so it worked. Would come back again!

Great family gathering space

We had so much fun staying here. Close to town and great hiking/fishing spots. The house was so cozy with plenty of room to gather and have our own privacy. The hot tub and grill with an awesome deck made the evenings :) our pup loved running around the yard!

Weekend Get Away

I recently retired from a high stress job and some friends and I decided we wanted to just get away for the weekend and not do anything other than relax. We were able to do that at Shady Pines. The house felt like a home away from home the Owner is very hospitable. The house had everything we could think of. We decided to book at least once a quarter if possible and go to "our little cabin". Thank you for making our weekend great.

Solitude and giant windows

My husband and I had an incredibly relaxing weekend at this property. It was challenging for us to get out of the house to go explore because we just wanted to stay in and relax. Despite having some fairly close neighbors, the property offers privacy and was very quiet. It was just what we needed. We will definitely come back, and bring our son with us, who I think will enjoy the property as well as the great layout of the house. Three of the bedrooms are loft bedrooms, and there's even a hidden closet with stars on the ceiling! If you're planning to do a lot of cooking, you may want to plan simple dishes that don't require a whole lot of prep. There were lots of appliances (countertop ice maker!) But most of the kitchen cabinets were empty. We didn't mind as we ate out and brought some more pre-made meals. Hot tub under the stars can't be beat. I'm looking forward to spending some time here in colder weather when we can have a fire inside and just relax away from the hustle and bustle. The woven basket collection was to die for! So beautiful and one of my favorite things to collect! The views in the master bedroom are the most important part of the place. It's private enough that you don't need to close the blinds at night and waking up to that glorious view is very relaxing! Thanks so much for sharing your cabin with us.

Large and peaceful

Shady Pines is a large, comfortable, unique home situated in a beautiful, peaceful and private setting. We loved all the large windows looking out onto the forest! It is located conveniently between Grass Valley and Nevada City so we were able to get to both towns in just minutes. We spent a lot of our time on the large deck overlooking the forest where we were visited regularly by deer and a fox! Steve was a very responsive host when we contacted him. He resolved any issues we had quickly. We would love to visit again!
