Located approximately 200 yards from the start and finish of the Ironman World Championship, Kona Kai puts you right into the heart of Kona. Shopping, dining, entertainment, swimming, snorkeling, surfing are all within 1/2 mile of this property. The pool at the complex is nestled in the center, and offers a quiet peaceful place to swim and hang out.

Kona Kai B2 is a very nicely updated unit on the 2nd floor. Air conditioning and engineered wood flooring help to keep the condo cool and comfortable.

This unit comes equipped with beach chairs, towels, umbrella, and a small cooler for guests use. It may or may not have some snorkel gear that was left by previous guests. We do not provide snorkel gear. Non-fitting snorkel gear takes all the fun out of snorkeling, so it is best to rent your equipment while you are here.

Kona Vacation

Property was very nice. Located within walking distance to beaches and shops. Couch wasn’t the most comfortable, but we weren’t in the condo very much.

Exactly what we wanted!

This property was perfect for our trip. We wanted a place to make our own breakfasts and lunches, and relax between activities. Nice and inviting. The decor was perfect for that island getaway, and the kids loved the gecko art in their room! We would absolutely stay here again.

Perfect Location/Wonderful Stay

The Kona Kai B2 unit was the perfect place to spend our almost week in Kona!! It is centrally located and made walking to dinner, drinks & all things local so easy!! The property is in excellent condition, the beds are so comfy, A/C was great, and not always needed! It was everything advertised, and in addition, the property management company was responsive and so helpful with anything we had questions on.

Home away from home

We did not encounter any issues at all. Everything we need is there. The place is really close to downtown and grocery stores. We prefer walking down to get to Ali’i drive.. safe and quiet place. I like the fact that we don’t need a key but punch a code. Perfect place to stay..

Excellent budget-friendly spot, clean and comfortable

I was looking for a place with a walkable location, functional air conditioning in both bedrooms, comfortable beds and a decent kitchen. This fit the bill perfectly! I remember reading other reviews mentioning that check in was confusing, but it was simple and easy for us. Right next to the grocery store, short walk to the shore (but with a hill to climb on the way back), comfortable beds and bedding, plenty of towels, and easy access to laundry.

The location was the only plus to it. The apartment is old, run down and tired, old AC units, very loud and we couldn’t manage to have a decent night of sleep. You could hear the irrigation system at 4 am, gardener at 6 and so on. On the last day we reported not having hot water, firstly you had to use the sink and shower taps to get it to work but we had to use just cold water because the boiler wasn’t working anymore, they acknowledged it but nothing got done so we couldn’t shower, wash dishes or the baby with hot water. So please do yourselves a favour and don’t book this property, look for something better. I do not recommend, shocking how they get away with charging what they do for properties in that condition.

Aloha, I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Kona Kai is an older building, and on a main road right in town. Travelers like this unit for its convenience to get around town and to the Kona Pier, and it is a cute little unit. The AC window units are only about 3-4 years old. The unit's proximity to the ocean and salt water take its toll. Typically not so pretty in a short time, the window ACs usually function well for a while. I appreciate your comments. We will inspect them to see if there is anything we can do to make them work more efficiently. We can't do anything about the gardener or irrigation. Upon your report of a hot water issue, we immediately contacted the site manager. We manage other units that have quieter locations. Please check with us before booking next time so that we can match you to the best unit for your needs. Mahalo, Tracy

Kona Kai

The location was very convenient and overall was a great stay. Only buts were, the shower taking a long time to heat up, so didn’t like wasting that much water and it went cold during my showers too. It also had a could cooking utensils not fully cleaned.

Close to downtown

The unit was clean, quiet, cozy for a couple. The location is great, close to grocery stores, the bank and easy to get to walmart. We arrived late and had a hard time finding the unit. Would be helpful for the property managers to create a layout of the buildings and the room unit numbers because they are all mixed up and not in order. Laundry is coin operated.

One week stay in Kona

Close to the pier, shopping, and restaurants. Lots of nice white bath towels in the condo. The AC and fans were nice. We needed some beach towels and a decent size pot to cook in, and we called the property manager and received these items within a few hours. They were very responsive to our requests. The oven had an error code and we were not able to use it. That was fine though, because the microwave and stove top worked. Overall it was a enjoyable stay.

Rough Check-In Process

The property was ok if a little dated, no real complaints there. Do note there there is no dishwasher in the unit. The check-in was not great. I didn't receive check-in instructions or a door code prior to arrival and ended up sitting outside the unit well past my check-in time while I attempted to contact the host via several phone numbers including a manager that was on vacation and had to call VRBO Customer Service. Not the smooth process I'm used to when using VRBO.

Mostly good

The only things wrong with this property was the furniture. The main bedroom bed was beyond worn out, and obviously so. There was a spot where the cushioning was completely shot and covered with some sort of pad, presumably to alleviate the problem (it did not work). My wife moved to sleep in the single bed in the second bedroom. Luckily we only had 3 people in the apartment. The couch in the living room was also remarkably hard and uncomfortable. Location was advertised, close to pier. There was some road noise but not more than expected.

Mediocre

Decorations were nice, beds were uncomfortable, close to downtown Kona. On the first day we saw notices posted everywhere saying they had sprayed for pests that day. By the end there were some ants in the unit and I saw one cockroach which I killed. The pool was nice. The master bedroom bed was sagging on one side and was pretty much shot. They had towels, dishes etc. which we appreciated. The appliances in general were updated. If you want hot water get up early because by 9 am you're going to be taking a cold shower. The shower head was also kind of funky. All in all the place was suitable for our purposes but not really worth the price.

The twin beds are brand new, but they are quite firm and not to everyone's preference. The master bed is pretty soft. The owner may be considering replacing it in the near future. Regular pest control is a must here. We live on a tropical island in the middle of the ocean. Bugs are just part of every day life. We do what we can to keep them under control, but there is no getting rid of them entirely. This unit has been booked pretty solid over the past 2 months and yours is the first complaint I've received about the hot water being inadequate. I will certainly investigate. Sorry, I didn't notice any issues with the shower head, so not sure what you mean by "funky". Take care and safe travels. ~Kona Beach Properties

Fantastic location and very welcoming community, but the unit itself failed to meet our expectations

I gave a rating of 3 because, while the location was fantastic, the condo itself was poorly equipped. The kitchen was very understocked, utensils were covered in a greasy residue. The plasticware had a strong, unpleasant odor that seeped into the food, making it unusable.Many of the items in the property were either almost broken or simply didn’t work at all (like the hairdryer), and the air conditioning units were in desperate need of a filter change and a deep cleaning.As a two-bedroom condo, we expected enough beach equipment for four people, but there was only enough for two. The chairs we were provided were ancient, bulky, and uncomfortable, pool noodles were disintegrating. The pillows were stained yellow and worn out and the polyester sheets were cheap, hot and uncomfortable;in addition to very sunken mattresses.It’s unfortunate because, with better amenities, our experience could’ve been much better. The unit owner should update the condo’s furnishings to meet rental expectations.On a positive note, the management and grounds team were extremely helpful, friendly, and responsive. We would consider staying here again, but not in this particular unit.

Schöne Unterkunft mit kleineren Einschränkungen

Alles in allem hat uns die Unterkunft sehr gefallen. Etwas nervig war, wie schon in anderen Bewertungen erwähnt, dass das Wasser sehr lange laufen musste, bis es warm wurde. Zudem fanden wir es etwas umständlich, dass der Waschraum abends geschossen wurde, sodass die Wäsche dort dann eingeschlossen war. Das Bett war viel zu weich, wobei das natürlich absolut subjektiv und Geschmackssache ist. Super war, dass es neben Beach-Chairs auch Sandspielzeug für das Kind gab und auch ausreichend Handtücher waren für alle Gäste vorhanden. Die Küche ist tiptop ausgestattet und wir fanden besonders das Kochfeld fpr die Pfannkuchen super :-)

A week in Hawaii

It was real easy to get to and close to the beach , shopping and everything you could need! The pool was nice! We felt like we were right in the middle of everything and anything ! They had nice new fluffy towels the place was just like home.
