My family of 7 stayed in Casa Alma Vista in December 2018 for 8 nights. I'm not sure if part of our experience was due to hurricane recovery, but I expected a bit more comfort. That said, the stay at Alma Vista was adequate and the patio is absolutely divine. Vieques beaches are perfect.
Pros:
1) The patio is fantastic. Nice, comfortable furniture. New grill. Terrific view and breezes. When we were at the house, we were on the patio.
2) Kitchen was stocked with nice dishware, pots/pans, utensils.
3) I expected the home to be small, but it was roomy and plenty for our family of 7. We had both the upper and lower units.
4) Jocelyn was responsive and provided good introductory/house information. She tried to help us in many ways beyond booking the house for our stay.
5) Beach chairs and snorkel equipment were new.
6) The island beaches . . . . amazing.
7) The island residents were helpful, friendly, fun, welcoming. Definitely ready for tourism.
Cons:
1) The house was not marked in any way and the taxi drivers had no idea where it was. We had told the owners that we would meet Kikito at the house and call him if we had any issues, but finding the house was a challenge because there was no sign marking it's location. Calls to Kikito went unanswered as we were searching. (If you're going, Casa Isa does have a sign and is the same entrance.)
2) We were handed the keys by a non-English speaking woman and had no further contact with anyone on the island associated with the house. Kikito, the house caretaker and our supposed on-island contact, was off island every time we contacted him by text. We did have an issue with the shower that could not be resolved while we were there.
3) Furniture in the house is uncomfortable, outdated, and felt grimy.
4) Water was sporadic, although I believe this to be an island issue rather than a house issue. We didn't expect the problem and were alarmed the first time the faucets ran dry. It happened 3 times during our visit, but each time came back on within a few hours.
5) Sheets and beach towels were of very low quality. Sheets were full of pills. Towels were thin and old.
6) Weird minor issues all week like the water going off. We never did figure out how to turn on the oven. One night something in the second bathroom overflowed and flooded the bedroom next door. Sometimes grabbing the shower handle resulted in a significant hand-shock. Nothing to ruin our vacation, just oddities that could be frustrating.
