An expensive lesson
The home is beautiful. However, the description does not tell you that there is no secure, separate entrance for the area you are staying in. So when I arrived I was surprised to learn that while the entire 3rd floor was reserved, anyone else in the building could easily also access the part I would be staying in.
The next surprise was that there were already people who claimed to have the 3rd floor reserved for the night. So I went back to the first floor looking for the owner. He was not home but the dog was. Prospective tenants should also know that while the dog was on the other side of a child safety gate, the dog could have easily moved past the gate. We had no dog issues, but someone else easily could.
The owner was not home but did call me. He spoke to the other party and they left. By that point I was concerned they might return. Either the owner let them in himself earlier or they had the same code to get in--I am not sure. Either way, at this point I didn't feel very safe about the property. An unfamiliar dog in the house, free range for everyone in the house since we all share the entrance, and bow strangers who had already been in the unit who were clearly under the influence of some pretty strong substances who might return at any time, and I asked for a refund. Bill assured me I would receive one.
While he was responsive to my concerns, I had to remind him and then it was only a partial refund. While that may not be his fault, it also is not mine.
A property I booked to ensure a safe nights sleep after fun in the area ended up costing me $27 and will cause me to second guess the safety of any future bookings. Not much of a deal.
