Welcome to StrautmanHaus, a Bavarian style A-Frame home, nestled at the base of Berkshire East Mountain Resort. This charming chalet is newly renovated, with 4 beds/2 baths/4 decks and stunning views that sleeps 10! Surrounded by mature growth pine trees, the property offers a perfect combination of privacy and ski-on/off access to Berkshire East. In the summer & fall, you have on-site access to the resort’s mountain biking/white water rafting/zip line/mountain coaster & aerial adventure park.

What sets StrautmanHaus apart is its unparalleled on-mountain location, providing ski-on/off access in winter and seamless access to summer adventures at Berkshire East. In winter, indulge in the thrill of skiing and snowboarding right from your doorstep, while summer brings a plethora of activities including mountain biking, whitewater rafting, zip-lining, mountain coaster rides, and more—all just steps away from your retreat.

The first floor offers a large entryway with two bedrooms (one with a queen-sized bed, one with a twin-sized bunk bed and a full-size futon) alongside a full bathroom. Ascending upstairs you will be welcomed to the main living area with a newly renovated kitchen with quartz countertops, full appliance suite with a gas range, three-seat counter bar, and a gas grill on the front deck. This open concept floor flows into the dining area and living area, with cozy features such as wood fireplace and back deck overlooking trees and a peaceful stream. This level also offers a large HD television with full channel access via Hulu, Bluetooth sound bar, and oversized dining table for family and friends. Off the kitchen is a newly renovated full bathroom.

The top floor has an additional two bedrooms, one with a queen-sized bed and the other with a queen and a twin bed, each with private decks overlooking another layer of trees and nature.


The home is enveloped by greenery for privacy yet offers great proximity to downtown Charlemont for all your needs. Additional features in the home include a mini split system for cooling and heating in each bedroom. On the main floor, an in-house laundry center, a state-of-the-art Culligan water treatment system, large driveway fitting 4+ cars, and on-site access to Berkshire East Mountain Resort for biking/skiing/tubing/obstacle course/zip line/mountain coaster, etc.

Great stay at a lovely house!

The house was definitely nice and we enjoyed our stay. I didn’t give it 5 stars because the two downstairs bedrooms had a strong musty smell.

Such a wonderful time!!!

My husband and I loved the property. Very clean with many modern touches. The proximity to the resort made it very easy to walk up to our white water rafting trip (which was amazing!). The deck off of the living room is fantastic; very relaxing to look out at the trees and listen to the creek. We would definitely consider booking again in the future. Thank you!

Great place to stay

The property had everything we needed, was very clean, and was perfectly set up to have young children on the bottom floor and others on the top floor for undisturbed sleep.

Quiet and clean

Great trip to the Berkshires! The town of Charlemont is quiet and has lots of outdoor adventures. We stayed at the Haus Strautman for 2 nights and were delighted with the chalet. The beds were comfortable, the living room cozy- the kitchen had everything you needed- bring k-cups! Nice big Kuerig! It is tucked away back from the parking lot of the base of the mountain. I was the one to find and secure the place on Vrbo and my family thanked me.

Beautiful house in a beautiful place

This home was so beautiful, from walking in the front door the first time we felt at home. Our guests stayed on the first floor and had their own bathroom, and we stayed in one of the bedrooms on the top floor. Everything was clean and tidy. The kitchen was so well equipped we could have made gourmet meals every night if we wanted to, but we stuck to using the grill on the front porch. The majority of our time was sent on the back porch taking in the nature and sounds. The town of Charlemont was quaint and still managed to have what we needed. There were numerous restaurants very close that were all wonderful. We knew the closest grocery store was in Greenfield so we made sure to bring essentials with us on the way, but we found a lot of local meat and goodies at Wells Provisions. Our host was attentive and friendly. The code we were originally given didn't work on the door, but they had sent us a document with all the pertinent information about the locale and check in/ check out that had the correct one. We had no complaints and if we come back to the area we would stay again. Thank you!

Fantastic property and owner

This was a beautiful, very well-appointed chalet style home. Ellen was wonderful and answered any questions we had immediately. We were shocked at how well stocked it was……anything you could imagine needing….it was there. I highly recommend this rental!

Lovely chalet in the Berkshires

I had a lovely stay at the Strautmanhaus with my wife and some friends. The property is charming and beautifully decorated, and it fulfilled my wife's dream of staying in a chalet in the Berkshires. The check-in process was very easy although it took us some time to actually find the property since it was dark already when we arrived. Note that the house is located off of a skiing and mountain biking resort, so it is not necessarily super secluded, but it is still adjacent to woods. There was some noise from the resort's parking lot during the day but it did not bother us.

Super Amenities and Location

House is perfectly located for access to Berkshire East and other outdoor attractions. Tons of little helpful touches including basic pantry items and plenty of extra seating and blankets. Highly recommend to other family groups especially.
